I just had a look at ElPais online and was disgusted to see this: http://www.elpais.com/global/

It may have disappeared, in which case have a look at my blog...it's my first post.

http://rantinglefty.blogspot.com

(apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I am new here and didn't know where to stick this. I thought I should make a screenshot of the page and save it on my blog before they take it off...wishful thinking I suppose. Probably they won't get any flak at all -which they bloody should for pretending to be left-wing...bastards)

Thanks.

Its disgusting but that hyper commercialization is all pervasive today. Capitalism is at a stage where its cannabalizing itself. I'm old enough to remember when naming sports stadiums , universities, or other public spaces after corporations or wealthy individuals was considered in bad taste and having underfunded schools compete with each other to sell unhealthy junk food to children for a few shekels was considered wrong.Everything in the public space, even the idea of public space, is being commodified.

The commercialization of the Internet( built by the US taxpayer) is the least of it but it is annoying. Many youtube videosnow have long commercials. There's a rather disgusting BP youtube propaganda page which always shows up when I look at leftist songs, for some reason.

Comrade, good to hear a kindred voice in this mainly apathetic, right-wing world!

Soon they will be papering over gravestones with ads. I'd like to think that capitalism is destroying itself through this. Marx said it would destroy itself through depressions but we haven't seen much evidence of that...:(

He said that capitalism would fail due to it's own inherent contradictions, and if you look at the last 40 years there is plenty of evidence of that. The frequency and intensity of market crises tends to increase.

Also, most economists say that a healthy capitalist economy requires around 3% yearly compound growth in order to be viable, and we're seeing now a real crisis of growth. As the world economies expand, it'll be harder and harder to feed this growth. 3% growth today is a lot more than 3% growth 50 years ago, IIRC from David Harvey this will soon mean that capitalists will have to find reliable investments of about 1.5 trillion dollars, in a world where capitalist expansion leaves very few, if any, untapped markets left. It will be interest to see how this growth crisis affects the world.

[Note: all of these are loose numbers remembered from a lecture I saw a few days ago, I'll find the video and just post that]
