... but I've never been here before.

So hi!

I guess I should start by telling you a bit about myself. I'm in my early 30s, white, an atheist/secular humanist, an immigrant from an English-speaking Western country, and live in a pretty crappy little city in New England (all of which are factors in defining how I think about things :) ). I've only really discovered anarchist philosophy in the last few years, but have firmly defined myself as a socialist for a while now. The more I learn about the philosophy, the more I feel comfortable labeling myself as an anarcho-collectivist, as much as labels can mean anything.

I'm basically here to be more informed and to discuss ideas and thoughts with a group of people that actually understand what I'm trying to communicate. That's really hard in the US, and a lot of people will think you're going to take away their car and give it to a homeless person or something. I wanted to find a place where I could actually have a sane dialogue about issues with folks so here I am!

That's about it.

Welcome comrade.

While I'm pretty sure you're out of the typical age range to get roped into the lifestylism or ultra-idealism that bogs down most so-called 'anarchists' today, I suggest you read up on the Platform and the efforts of the Makhnovchina if you haven't already, to get an idea of what a serious Anarchist vanguard would look like.

Not trying to be condescending or anything, please don't take it that way.

This is how I picture Anarchism:

Imagine a very useful tool that would help you accomplish a great many things, that just happens to be smack in the middle of a minefield. All the land mines are shitty pseudo-anarchists and their various pathetic tendencies that want to convince you that empty gestures somehow signify real rebellion. You must avoid them to get to the forklift of emancipation and ride it into battle with other real anarchists.... who have presumably found some other forklifts somewhere else. Probably home depot or something. On second thought, screw this site. Just go to home depot.
