Anyone into the loosely-defined "thrash", and whatever genres fall into this category (thrashcore, fastcore, proto-grindcore, powerviolence, etc), on this board? To make its easy, "thrash" is punk-oriented music which is ridiculously fast.

Not to be mistaken with thrash metal..

i used to be a huge fastcore/powerviolence fan. Scholastic Deth may still be one of the best bands ever created.

These days I'm mostly into hardcore. The heavy shit and the fast shit.

So the difference between this and hardcore is the speed? And the difference between this and thrash metal is...? Worse vocals? Poorer riffs?

I only knew the name powerviolence in regards to some retarded branch of Screamo/Emo. Never heard it refer to anything else. OPs song sounds pretty much like a regular hardcore song though? Except for the blast beats. I'm very confused.

+1 to Helios.

*sigh*.........

Thrashcore is often confused with crossover thrash and sometimes thrash metal.[3][4] Further confusion is added by the fact that many crossover bands, such as D.R.I., began as influential thrashcore bands.[3] The term thrashcore is of recent vintage but dates from at least 1993.[5] Throughout the '80s, the term "thrash" was in use as a synonym for hardcore punk (as in the New York Thrash compilation of 1982). It eventually came to be used for the faster, more intense style pioneered by D.R.I., just before their crossover period.[6] The "-core" suffix is necessary to distinguish it from the thrash metal scene, which is also referred to as "thrash" by fans. Still more confusingly, the term "thrashcore" is occasionally used by the music press to refer to thrash metal-inflected metalcore.[7]

Thrashcore (also known as fastcore[1]) is a fast tempo subgenre of hardcore punk that emerged in the early 1980s.[2] Thrashcore is essentially sped-up hardcore punk, with bands often using blast beats.[1] Songs can be very brief, and thrashcore is in many ways a less dissonant, less metallic forerunner of grindcore. Like hardcore groups, thrashcore lyrics typically emphasize youthful rebellion or antimilitarism. In some ways, the genre is aligned with skateboarder culture.[1]

The powerviolence scene grew out of thrashcore as an American (California) counterpart to the British grindcore scene, which had emerged from crust punk. Powerviolence groups saw themselves as distinct from grindcore because of the increasing proximity of grindcore groups to the death metal being performed in Florida, Sweden, and Brazil.[8] Powerviolence groups wished to avoid the association with heavy metal music and culture that crossover thrash, thrash metal, and grindcore had made. As well as from thrashcore, powerviolence groups also took inspiration from crust punk, from some aspects of early youth crew, and eventually from noise music.

Example of thrashcore/powerviolence bands are Guyana Punch Line, the first Municipal Waste album and everything that came before that, Betercore, Scholastic Deth, No Comment, Charles Bronson, Spazz, Capitalist Casualties etc.

I like this genre. Cryptic Slaughter, Corrosion of Conformity, D.R.I. Better than both punk and "thrash metal".
