I think so.

Just look at history and human consciousness in the world. Reflect back to what we know of civilizations customs and traditions before christ and present days.

I just want to focus if political and economic systems remain the same for an other 100 years or so. The ongoing battle between right and left wing. I don't want to put too much emphasis if we are in a certain economic system. Just pretended the struggle is almost the same but 100 years later.

Can you guys think of stuff humans did to each other and animals 500 years ago that was consider ok? For example the romans used to make Lions and humans fight each other as a spectacle. Now we think that's just plain nuts!
Other used to sacrifice animals and humans for the sun and whatever other gods.

The way we used to punish humans, public hangings, decapitations and dismemberments? all this was a form of entertainment and normal. Now is not.(obviously this goes on in the rural and most undeveloped regions still)

Cock Fighting, Bull Fighting, Circuses, other form of inflicting suffering to animals for our entertainment.. slowly is starting to die out and be banned. Largely frown upon, surprisingly in Spain even!

In the more industrialized world, the western world a vegetarian and vegan life style are gaining more popularity. People seem to be more concern for "animal rights" than people are in.. let's say.. El Salvador!

I remember as a kid in Mexico how normal it was for my friends to hit a dog with a rock if we saw one wondering around... or make dogs fight. even just hurt animals for entertainment. There's something about social class that in my experience it showed me that in 3rd world countries animals are like whatever.. fuck em.. kill em hurt them. (obviously not all people are like this or not every country, we know places like India worship cows etc., just making a point.)

None of us will be alive in 2100... But from the examples I used and some that you probably know of your self.. Do you think that as we become more rational and conscious eventually we will be "more sensitive"? open to dialogue and less violence?

I mean.. people who had disagreements used to duel!!! to the death! now people talk about it.. debate..

?

Humanity is slowly realizing that exploiting animals is morally indefensible on a lot of levels. Or well, not realizing, but accepting that it is that way, no matter how much our petty diets and lifestyles suffer from that fact.

I see that as the primary force behind the increasing support for animal rights, rather than some "opening up" or increased "debate-friendliness".
