Worth it?

Can't really tell. To what ends do you consider using it?

Not sure really. Maybe for news updates?

Not worth it at all. It's completely pointless unless you're a celebrity. You can't fit a proper news update or any meaningful comment into 140 characters.

Well, that's good to know.
Are there really any uses for Twitter, or is it just another attractive waste of time?

It may be somewhat useful for quickly spreading links/really short announcements (though as mentioned, 140 characters is a joke) within a group. But then again, there likely are more satisfying means for either.
I really think advertising is the only thing it's good and used for, mostly by celebrities. You could of course use it to spread links to you news, if you have a target audience on twitter, but... meh.

I used twitter briefly. I hate it. Don't waste your time.

It's fun to play reformist. I have had nice chats with national and local politicians.
We use it for announcing our articles. That's basically just a hip rss feed, but it works. Have a look (http://twitter.com/Offensief).

Twitter is the condensed essence of every other social networking site and everything that makes them popular. Hence, it is the most vapid and trivial of them all.
Haha, nice post here:
We're hip like that

Staying in contact with hipster friends, news updates from lefty sources and seeing what Charlie Brooker, Roger Ebert and William Gibson are thinking are the only uses I find for it.

I've seen it used to provide up-to-date information on events at conferences. That could be useful for people who can't attend, say, demos or organization meetings.

I like the challenge of condensing a critique or reaction to some news story into 140 characters, it's more a mental exercise than a serious medium.
