Earth is under attack. Corporations are cutting down our forests, while factories pollute our water. Televisions destroy our minds, and the media keep us in ignorance. Meanwhile all around us we are living in a warzone. The battle. Nature vs humans.
As anti civ anarchists we are caught constantly in the middle, still existing in society, but feeling a deep connection to the land as well as a desire to fight for it. This often leads to the question, of what can I do when moving into the forest isn't an option?
Now, I've been a part of the Northa American Anarchist scene for over 20 years and have travelled all across Canada and the United states trying to answer these questions.
I have never learned to drive a car, I catch rides with people going my way, and if that doesn't work out I find a train that is going my way. I haven't worked for those 20 years. I find food in dumpsters and share what local anarchists have to offer. They never have much food, but I eat as much as I can. Usually they never say anything because I often leave in the middle of the night, thats when catching trains is best. But I always pay people back, everything I now own I have found in dumpsters. And I leave presents for those that take me in. Two weeks ago I found a bbq in the alley and left it in the backyard of some folks I was staying with as a thank you. And the week before that I left some broken lawn chairs on the porch of my friends appartment. They where in great condition, with only a leg missing from each and the fabric broken away.
I get a real connection to the land when I eat roadkill that I find, although its rare my ride will ever let me back in after we stopped to pick it up, even when I offer to share.
Sometimes I play shows in basements when people lend me out of tune guitars. That doesn't matter though, its more punk that way.
Anyways what I'm hoping to share with you, is how to still live in a civilization while being anti civ. Living in society allows us to remain in touch with it, yet a subversive lifestyle means we are still effective and help the planet. Just think if one out of every hundred people choose a subversive lifestlyle, how many crates of rotting food and broken chairs could we keep out of landfills? Think about the impact on the travel industry, more subversive lifestyle anti civ anarchits means less cars on the road. Think about how many service industry jobs will be left empty, because every job not filled means less money for the corporation. For every shower we do not take, we save countless gallons of water, while decreasing the over purified air quality of those in the food court around us.
We are the foot soliders of Earth's battle against human oppresion. We fight behind the lines. With every window we smash, with every old tire we dumpster, with every couch we sleep on, and every ride we take we take a stand and become one step closer to Earths liberation.
