He's over 60, so you can still smoke & drink as much as you want to be cool at 60 there's just no promises from 61 onward :p

Honestly though he's been a complete prick for nine years so I'm not going to miss him even if this cancer doesn't carry him off. All health to him and that shit but "the Hitch" (urgh) is a wanker.

Yeah, I was trying to figure out my feelings about this - I think you describe my feeling perfectly.

I don't wish suffering or pain or death on anyone, but a Hitchens who is unable to speak for a little while is a nice break for humanity.

as much as his politics turned shit (tbh they always were shit, no send trotters), man had swagger beyond beleif and was a joker. I would rather go pub with him than someone like Noam Chomskey

I go to the pub with enough people that irritate me, to be honest, plus I reckopn Chomsky's probably gotten short shrift as rergards his viability as a pub companion plus he'd do you better on quiz night.

Christopher Hitchens is a war criminal. I just hope he suffers.

Christopher Hitchens is a war criminal. I just hope he suffers. What war crime has he commited, specifically? As far as I'm aware supporting war crimes makes you a totally and utterly reprehensible parody of a human being but as far as I'm aware you actually have to commit or order (that is order, as in tell someone for whom obeying you is mandatory not write endless odious newspaper columns or appear as a talking head twat on right wing telly) an atrocity. I know you're trying to convey that he's utter scum and so on, but words mean things.

ok fuck it, Hitchens over any of the speakers at Marxism2010 (excpet maybe Zizke) Honestly if I was stuck with the choice between going to the pub with one of the pompous bores they get to speak at Marxism or a narcissistic blowhard like Hitchens I'd probably just stay home.

My understanding of international law (which is not profound) is that advocacy of war crimes has, at least in some cases, been considered (legally and not just morally) itself a crime. I may certainly mistaken, but as you said, the point is that he should rot.

You should never celebrate anybody having cancer. Nonetheless, on the positive side, they may have to take out his larynx

Think it's funny, do you?

My mother died of breast cancer.

Maybe the fat prick shouldn't have sucked down so many cigars in a pathetic attempt to look hard. He's rich enough to afford the best treatment money can buy, he doesn't need my sympathy.

It didn't stop Roger Ebert, with losing his voice he just wrote (and tweeted) more. We'll just be getting more dumb opinion columns from him.

At very least we should get to see his fat fucking face a lot less often on television.

She's just some anonymous woman at a bar.
