Maoist sports federation splits
REPUBLICA
KATHMANDU, July 6: The long-running dispute within the Republican Sports Federation of Nepal, sister organization of UCPN (Maoist), has become public on Tuesday.
The federation expelled its central committee member Prithvi Thapa on Tuesday following Thapa´s decision to split the federation and establish Nepal Progressive Sports Federation last Friday.
Organizing a press conference on Tuesday, the chairperson of the Republican Sports Federation, Jayandra Bahadur Chand, alleged that the splinter faction was power hungry. "We are not objecting to the formation of the new organization but we condemn their effort to defame our organization," said Chand.
The Progressive Sports Federation has alleged Chairperson Chand of surrendering to the "sports mafia".
"They should have searched resolution within the federation. They are opportunists with no faith in the party and they are not for the development of sports," alleged Chand.
