I for awhile now have been looking to get involved with the left more actively, i know no other leftists, i know of no groups in my area...
I live in the area of Vancouver, Canada, i know there are some groups around but no not of their name or any members. But i also feel that they are more just anti war groups, i want a bit more than that tho. I am a Council Communist and just as easily join a Left Communist group as a Anarchist type group, since i feel my ideology is compatible with both in a sense.
I think more than just wanting to get involved is to be able to discuss the left openly with out people thinking your off your rocker.

I did look into some groups a while ago, but they either didn't have a group in the country or the group was on the other side of canada...
Is it me or does Canada have limited amount of leftist organizations?

I know I've posted this before, that was few months ago but im still looking... i think this is like my last attempt before i just give up. Maybe im secluded to talking about politics on the internet for the rest of my life.:crying:

There's actually a lot out there, but you have to look (even outside out the internet-- look for flyers around the city and stuff). I don't know much because I live pretty far North of the Vancouver area and the further you go North, the lack of leftism becomes apparent.

I believe there is also an IWW branch in Vancouver. Also, you said there were anti-war groups. If you get into a fairly radical issue-based group (and I imagine there were a lot for the Olympics), you will probably over a little while get acquainted with the left in your city and figure out what sort of political groups and struggles you want to get into.

Living in WA (Aus) the political scene is pretty much flat. People either don't know what communism is (some associate it with Hitler:mad:) or mumble something about communism only working in theory and tell me that everyone is left at some point in their youth. Plus, my friends feel awkward or just roll their eyes at me when I bring up politics which is more or less why I decided to find a leftist chat page. However, I did find two friends at school that were commies and I just think I would have guessed that if I didn't bring it up so, yeah. That's my rather vague piece of advice.

Well there is the Internationalist Worker’s Group/Groupe Internationaliste Ouvrier (http://www.leftcom.org/en/about-us/iwg) which is the US/Canadian section of the Internationalist Communist Tendency (What used to be the International Bureau for the Revolutionary Party). However they spring more from the Italian Left and so might not be exactly what you're looking for if you identify as council communist. The International Communist Current has a US section but I don't know if that extends to Canada as well.

You might be better off with one of the anarchist groups that Fietsketting reccomended.

Quick search of the Anarchist Yellow Pages brings up:
http://apcvancouver.org/ - Anti-Poverty Committee (actually an anti-capitalist organisation of revolutionaries, not some sort of pacifist pro-capitalist-yet-anti-poverty group)
There is also the Vancouver branch of the IWW: http://vancouver.iww.ca/

Although most self-described left communists have a significant influence from the Italian left (Bordiga, the journal Bilan, Onorato Damen, Ottorino Perrone), I still think it might be good to talk to them if you're interested in left communism or council communism. There are a couple contacts of the ICC in Canada but I don't think they're out near you and there's the Internationalist Workers' Group of the ICT, but if you're interested in anarchism, talk to those groups as well. I'm sure lots of people would be willing to discuss, etc. It's always good to learn--hope you can find some folks around that want to discuss and get involved in the class struggle.
