Thank god that I was born in America, and not in that international house of horrors that is the rest of the world.

I hate fourth of July, it's just a day for a bunch of hillbillies to get drunk and wave around their flag like the fascists they are

July the 4th is just an excuse to go eat BBQ and jump in the pool/beach here in the PR...
Although even in the U.S., I would still treat it this way...no flag waving for me.

4th of July is great fun. it's a day to get drunk, break shit, get in fights, smoke, and watch fireworks.
plus, barbecued meat and russian dumplings make it have a nice ethnic flavor (For me at least).
You can love one's country even if you don't love one's government.

It's interesting that patriotism is so hegemonic that patriots can't even see the fanaticism of their own statements.
If I was to say, "When I die, I desire no better winding sheet than the Hammer and Sickle, and no softer pillow than the Communist Manifesto", I would probably be laughed off this site. At least, I hope I would.

Same here. It's so cloudy and rainy that you can't even see the fireworks. I find it quite hilarious.

Am I the one who has to point out that Andrew Johnson was impeached for not carrying through Reconstruction after the Civil War and almost removed from office by Red and Radical Republicans?
Should I also mention that the Senator who would have become President if there had been one more vote to convict in Johnson's second impeachment trial was Benjamin Wade, a Red Republican and active member of the International Working Men's Association?
Happy anniversary of the first successful bourgeois-democratic revolution!
