Hey what do you guys think of Bill Maher? I started watching his show tonight, and I personally thought, out of all the people in this country that can spawn an intellectual revolution, however small and insignificant, this guy would be the one to do it. I especially like his criticism of religion and the conservatives. I think he and Micheal Moore should make a movie that really sticks it to the Teabaggers. And on that note, what do you guys think of "Captialism: A Love Story"? Personally I thought it was very humorous, and will be the cornerstone of the American Proletariat Revolution .

He's not bad, though a lot of people seem to dislike his strong support for Zionism. I've found my self watching Countdown with Keith Olbermann because of his willingness to confront the tea party's failures and errors and he is willing to jump on conservatives alongside liberals who he feels is apart of the problem. Also, with the whole BP thing, he wasn't afraid to reveal that the judge that blocked Obama's ban had ties to the oil industry. And he does not see "reagonomics" as a glorious thing nor does he support full blown capitalism. Ultimately though, I don't know if you could classify him as a marxist. He does support the idea of a welfare state, but in that sense, he seems like more of a progressive than anything else.

Capitalism: A Love Story, while obviously not radical and at times painfully pro-Obama, is as good a movie as any to at least begin the process of opening the eyes of people in the US and elsewhere in the West (I doubt people in the Third world need such an eye opening).
I anticipate people taking pot shots at it, and while I agree it is far from perfect, I wonder what else out there right now has the chance to show a wide audience some sort of basic anti-capitalist arguments. Not a lot of content like that out there, by well known directors.
At the end of the day, it is still more liberal than socialist, and the socialism he hints at isn't the kind that we're talking about.
full blown capitalism
All capitalist economies have at their core the same basic mechanism, namely the extraction of surplus value. Everything else is just window dressing. There is no full-blown capitalism vs some other type.

As an atheist, Bill Maher does not believe in Zionism, which is the religious belief that God promised the land to the people in Exodus. However, he agrees with the common U.S. belief that Israel is a democratic country surrounded undemocratic countries, and therefore he is uncritical of the government of Israel.
