Ghosts

As in paranormal spirits and those things.

I'm genuinely curious - does anyone here seriously believe in ghosts? Have you ever had an experience "with the other side"? If so, what was it like? What happened?

I remember as a kid we would go visit our relatives, who lived in the forest next to an old cemetary and being creeped the shit out. But I know people who swear they've seen a ghost and they tell really messed up stories. And these are people that are half intelligent. I guess the mind is a powerful thing, I want to hear if anyone else here has had some kind of experience like that, let us know.

To me, ghosts are just demons who simply desire to distract and trick people or they're spirits of nature.

Personally, I've experienced quite a few unexplainable happenings that could be attributed to ghosts. It seems that every time I visit the local hospital, at least one strange thing happens: I watch people get on elevators, the doors close, then immediately reopen and nobody's inside, in addition to voices, footsteps in empty hallways, things inexplicably falling from counters, etc. I've even gone "ghost hunting" a few times in graveyards and such, with some possibly paranormal results.
Although, every time I try to do some research on the subject, the only websites I come across are either about religion or other baseless theories.
I plan on doing more paranormal research in the future; See how much of all this can actually be rationalized. Occult Science and all that jazz.:confused:

Although I'm an atheist, I have yet to find a good explanation for ghosts and related activity.

I've only had a couple of paranormal experiences that affected me enough that I can recall them vividly.

1) When I was about 8 years old, I went to this old ranch with my parents (O'Keefe Ranch near Kamloops, BC if anyone cares) for sightseeing. When we entered the house of the family that used to live there, I looked at all the sepia-toned pictures of the family, and suddenly I felt a chill down my spine. I felt scared, so I wanted to find my parents who I had lost track of in the house.

I walked into a room that turned out to be empty, save for an old piano. While I stood there in the room, I suddenly felt like a whole bunch of other people were in the room with me, and that people were brushing past me, but there was not anyone else in the room with me.

I swear I saw a misty, cobweb-like apparition near the piano, so I freaked out and bolted outside where I waited for my parents.

One of our family friends that came with us was also waiting outside. On the car ride back to the hotel, he said "Did you guys get any weird feeling that someone was watching you from the upstairs window? I swear I saw a lady peeking out from the window, but the tour guide said no one is allowed up there."

I could hardly sleep that night I was so scared :(


2) In high school, I was in the school gym for PE when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a dark figure with a tall hat on standing in the bleachers. I was thinking "What the fuck is that?!" and turned my head to look and then the figure seemed to act like smoke - it quickly dissapated into the nearby doorway.

When I saw it out of the corner of my eye, I could clearly see the tall hat and a misshapen face, but when I turned to look, it "billowed" like smoke out the door. :blink:
