KATHMANDU: The UCPN-Maoist supports its Indian counterparts notwithstanding some differences on certain issues, and opposes the security operations being carried out against them in India, Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal told an Indian media outlet.

The former rebel leader, who is more popularly known with his nom de guerre Prachanda, further pointed out the need of dialogue and negotiations to solve the problems in India rather than using force, according to a report published on Saturday’s Hindustan Times.

Talking to the newspaper over telephone from Kathmandu, he said, “This is the first time we are publicly saying that we oppose state repression and the so-called Operation Greenhunt in India. The problems of the day can be solved only through dialogue and negotiations, not through the use of force.”

He argued that the Indian Maoists are ideologically the same as their Nepali counterparts.

The Nepali Maoists that took to an armed rebellion for a decade joined the mainstream politics in 2006. They succeeded to take over the government after winning the Constituent Assembly polls in 2008. The single largest party in the CA, however, stepped down from the government following the differences with the president over the sacking of the then army chief and his subsequent reinstatement.

Meanwhile, an Indian security expert has correlated Dahal’s support to the Indian Maoists with Nepal’s volatile political developments.

“His declaration of support is related to internal political developments in Nepal,” former RAW official B. Raman said.

Dahal has been accusing the Indian establishment of influencing the Nepali politics, in one way or the other, to thwart his party’s accession to the power.

After Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal announced his resignation on July 1, Dahal has staked claim over the leadership of the proposed national unity government.

These two movements are connected, and as comrades on both sides of the border increase their activity, and generally become more successful, they will help each other out. I think, if Prachanda and the working class of Nepal ever did seize state power, we would see funding going to their Naxalites comrades, or at least that's what I would like to see. I posted this in another thread a while back:
Two or three things to add: the Nepalese economy is pretty much wholly dependent on India for trade. The implications of this are quite obvious: the success of both revolutionary movements are intertwined. Secondly, the two movements claim to have "fraternal relations" with each other. As regards the actual effect of this, I'm not sure if they have ever been involved in talks, conferences etc. or if they have ever traded supplies and weapons. I think this sort of thing would be made harder by the bourgeois forces on both sides of the border. Finally, India has recently been involved in selling Israeli-made tanks to the Nepalese government. With the terrain in Nepal, this almost definitely implies that the they're going to be used on the streets, against protesters. It was a while ago when I heard this though, I don't know it has developed.

sweet.
Kindly don't take the words literally. Nepal isn't a advance western country and I hope none is expecting European level consciousness among general Nepali people. Kindly keep it in mind before starting any kind of sectoral debate.

CPI(Maoist) and UCPN(Maoist) have had ties dating back to 89-90. they are fraternal organizations. it does not surprise me that prachanda showed support for them, but i am happy to see it is made public.

The only thing which surprises me is that it hasn't been made public long before this? Or I'm sure that in Nepal this was well known or something.

When is the PLA going to go fight along side their Indian comrades? Maybe it won't be the smartest idea, but still...

I would like to know if the Nepali (or Indian) Maoists have publicly expressed support for the garment workers who recently held massive demonstrations in Bangladesh. From press reports, thousands of workers, mostly women, fought the police in protest against starvation wages.
