I was watching Countdown with Keith Olbermann last night and he had some activist who recorded vast amounts of video footage... and from what his footage has shown, there are a lot of animals that are trying to escape, but can't... there are a lot of dead animals floating in the ocean near the oil spill and it is figured that all of the fires being set on top of the oil and more specifically the smoke from them is killing everything in the air above the ocean... and they say that if a weaker hurricane like a cat. 2 hit the oil spill head on, it would worsen things greatly...

My friend googled "oil spill" and apparently BP have bought the rights to that phrase from google or something and whenever someone googles oil spill BP makes money. I haven't seen the website proving it though.
this is an invasion

didn't read all of it
it's just an ad. It says "sponsored link" above it. BP are paying Google, rather than making money from the search. Luckily, though, I have adblock plus installed in my browser, so I don't get to see it

Sadly my first internal response to this headline was "no shit?"
This business with the dispersants is a clusterfuck waiting to happen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deepwater_Horizon_oil_spill#Dispersal
For all we know the scene under the surface is a goddamn post apocalyptic nightmare, and I don't even want to think of all the cleanup workers that are going to get sick and die from exposure to benzene or god knows what else.

The Gulf is *full* of dead zones. Effluent from the Mississippi causes algae blooms and you get anoxic areas. It sucks. :(

And Obama "is confident" they will restore the gulf to be in better shape than it was before. Nobody even knew what it was like before, unknown ecosystems have been killed before even being seen.

So the question right now is what are we going to do about it?

Depressing is more accurate.

Depressing is more accurate.
I thought it was sarcasm.
Oh, I get it- we can't really talk about it because we're on the brink of another animal/planetary rights thread.

A disturbing clip from CNN. BP has, predictably, been doing everything to block any investigation into their wrongdoings. However, now the government is officially taking the same position, barring access for photographers and journalists. almost as interesting is how Anderson Cooper, who I generally figured was just another mouthpiece, regurgitating the official version of reality, really lays the smack down. Color me impressed.
