Hearing one song from Muse called Uprising has some interesting lyrics in it;

The paranoia is in bloom, the PR
The transmissions will resume
They'll try to push drugs
Keep us all dumbed down and hope that
We will never see the truth around
(So come on!)
Another promise, another scene, another
A package not to keep us trapped in greed
With all the green belts wrapped around our minds
And endless red tape to keep the truth confined
(So come on!)

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

Interchanging mind control
Come let the revolution take its toll if you could
Flick the switch and open your third eye, you'd see that
We should never be afraid to die
(So come on!)

Rise up and take the power back, it's time that
The fat cats had a heart attack, you know that
Their time is coming to an end
We have to unify and watch our flag ascend

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

Hey .. hey ... hey .. hey!

They will not force us
They will stop degrading us
They will not control us
We will be victorious

What do you think, Comrades? After hearing them at Glastonbury, I like their music but wanted some views of others on them.

I recall in another of their songs, a line pronouncing "How can we win, when fools can be kings."

Wikipedia tells me that the lead singer is a Georgist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoism). He's not left in the sense that we are.

He also apparently identifies as a libertarian and thinks 9/11 was an inside job, take from that what you will!

Thank you Comrade, it's still a great song.

It is, Muse are a pretty good band and do sometimes have quite revolutionary themes.

Who cares?
Honestly, their music's good (or, apparently, I never liked muse) so just appreciate it for what it is.

Who cares?

I do, it's rare enough to have a revolutionary band, but to have a band that's revolutionary and played on National radio, I think that's something we can use to open peoples minds.

It's a bunch of people who read 1984 and then made an album about it. And that song is terrible.

This:

In their live shows I'm pretty sure they have a screen that says "Ministry of ____" and shit.

I vehemently disagree that Muse is a "revolutionary" band, especially taking one terrible song with vague references to a vague "uprising" (what kind of uprising? Racist? Ultra nationalist?).

I find that most musicians have shitty/very unclear political opinions, so I've stopped trying to look for leftist messages in my music in hopes of going all teary eyed and realizing my favorite band is part of the revolutionary left

The message of the song (and album as a whole. It's a "concept" album. how artistic) is that the EU is essentially the same as "The United States of Eurasia" from 1984, and that those in charge are secretly planning to establish a New World Order thereby enslaving all of humanity. According to Muse, the only way we can stop this process is by joining Muse as part of "the resistance" and starting an ambiguous "uprising" which apparently consists of buying Muse's merchandise and albums.

also, Muse put this album out under Warner Brothers Record Label. it's funny you'd think that those "fat cats" would be a part of this conspiracy and would have a lot to lose from Muse exposing them like this. hmmm
