I have a question that I don't know the answer to (well, duh): How would professional sports be dealt with in a transitionary world? If people still would want to watch sports, would "professionals" still exist in some modified form, or something completely different?

After the transition to a complete communist society, there wouldn't be an issue of being paid to play.

I guess a better question is, why, in a capitalist world, is professional sports such a big screaming deal?

In a post-revolutionary society there would probably still be sports teams and the like where anyone who wanted to could organise teams and play in games that may or may not be televised, though the better teams would probably get more television time. The players would probably not subsist off of their athletic labours though.

It's a big screaming deal because it's a distraction from reality.

Rugby will be required of all men and women 13-40. Otherwise, that's it.

Anything to distract the lower classes from class tensions and the real issues in society. They are made some massive deal in order to bolster support for competition between individuals. It creates both a greedy and overly-competitive attitude. They are also a massive deal because they escalate nationalistic and racist attitudes and rivalries - and as we all know, capitalism, imperialism and the state are dependent on nationalism and racism to survive.

Plus there's the small matter of the illusion of success under capitalism (for the sportspeople; what with the millions made and all) and the advertisements, endorsements and sponsorship deals made between the sports world and the business world.

My idea is, that in a post-capitalist society, we shouldn't be pitting national teams against one another. Nationalism ought to be but a thing of the past; it is - and always will be - an abstraction from reality. Maybe we could limit the teams to city or regional teams. But that's just my idea.

It will be back to basics:):thumbup1: "Amateurs" who will give all what they have for the sport cause they arent doing it for the money but for the team(first:p) and themselves.
Of course and sports will continue exist, is a common practise and something i would say 90% of people enjoy, either is football(real one..), basketball, mma, figure skating(ok.) etc etc.We need no professionals to play the game, and really with amateurs passionated with what they are doing is better.
Its not a "big scream of deal" just in capitalism, its a "big scream of deal" because its nice, cool etc, people enjoy it, either playing, either watching it, it can get you away from the every day shits, oppression, poverty etc, and enjoy yourself with just one ball, and 4 rocks(thats how we used to do it at least..)

Cause sports its a way of life:cool:-Fuserg9:lol:
