I kinow this isn't revolutionary or anything, but it is a positive sign that peoples bourgeois notions on sexuality and morality are falling and people are losing their bullshit religeous and reactionary sentiment little by little.
A black man in the white house
A gay woman in the iceland job
According to glenn beck, this is proof we now live in a society free of racism and sexism, hell we dont have homophobia anymore, its a lie the liberals made up:rolleyes:

She's probably the first openly gay leader of a country under modern time.
But there's been gay leaders before. Richard Lionheart, Edward II, Elagabalus and probably countless...

this would be important if we were liberals
but as a communist, and just from simple observation of reality, I don't think the election of Barack Obama is either a barometer or a sign of decreased race predjudice, at least in the U.S. Just as with the economic oppression being completely untouched by anti-racism (because it proposes the continuation of exploitation, but with a more diverse set of exploiters), I don't even think attitudinaly it either does or reflects anything in the way people view other races, especially the non-elites of those races. In the U.S. Obama is considered a "good" black person because he is highly educated and represents the bourgeoisie and bourgeois values, whereas blacks who fail to fulfill both those criteria are still feared and discriminated against. I'm sure you could say something similar with regard to gender and sexuality.
I know you didn't claim this was revolutionary, but it's important to stress this.
I recently got an email from a leftist list-serv called "the unbearable whiteness of cable" about how all the news commentators on TV are white to which I could only think--why would it change anything for some of them not to be? Would it change the lives of the majority of black people for their to be a black newscaster besides making the bourgeois american dream seem more enticing (but certainly not anymore possible) and/or increase nationalism? Materially it would do nothing and ideologically it can't be spun in any kind of revolutionary way.
The only way to get rid of prejudices like these is for the working class to struggle together and unite together in the struggle, breaking down barriers and divisions under the banner of working class unity against exploitation and for a society based on solidarity. When massive class struggles erupt, you see workers breaking down these barriers and you see real solidarity--not based on phony "harmony" in words that is perpetually undercut by competition for resources/jobs/etc and atomization and isolation from each other--but based on real harmony of material interests and unity in fighting for those interests.

consent was set at 14, [2]- sexual intercourse between individuals, of 14 and above, was in other words legal as long as both parties consented. No distinction was now made between parties according to sex and all discrimination against homosexuals relating to the age of consent was eliminated.

Don't forget the Austrian neo-nazi douchebag Joerg Haider who, (while not a leader of a country, was a leader of an Austrian political party) was being a dumbass by driving home drunk from a visit in a gay bar--yet in his political career, he criticized blacks and muslis for being in Austria, and wanted to dog-tag them or something to that effect, even the native-born ones.
So much for solidarity of the oppressed.

It's in the news again because since yesterday gays can marry in Iceland, of which the prime-minister and her partner made use as one of the very first.
