This if from a British newspaper, i am not sure if it is the same in the rest of europe.

This highlights how women are treated as commodities, Too many men act like inhuman beasts, siding with the ruling class in their male chauvanist attitude.
Fucking disgrace.

There was a campaign like that here in the Netherlands as well.
Now England lost 4-1 to Germany I assume the worst.

Yeah, plenty of women cowering waiting for their husband to get home.
Starts with shouting then a slap, then when he reaches the height of his drunken attack, punches in the face, belt comes off, kids will be being hit right now too.
Makes anyone who isn't a monmster so angry, cowardly bastards.

Welcome to the World of your team have lost, now you have to batter the wife. It Just a fucking game and people need to understand that. People here in the U.S drop fucking dead in a sport bar or during a game at the stadium. Because they get very upset over a baseball or Football game, or even soccer along with there mass drinking.

There is no justification for abusing your partner (of any sex or gender), and to use something as shallow as a sporting loss to attack another human being who you are supposed to love is disgusting.

This is why professional sports are bullshit. I don't understand how any human being could overreact over a fucking game.

I suspect that an excess consumption of alcohol would be a contributing factor.

Many times it has nothing to do with alcohol... what's frightening is that, as RedAnarchist said, is that people do this over sports.

Because it is inserted into them of course. Even if you don't really like football, you will like football, because every fucking channel shows the games, the scores, and says ''Next Tuesday [your country] plays against [some country]'' 20 times per hour.
Such exaggeration can only lead to anormal cases like the ones we're talking about.
Its not the sports nor the WC fault, is the "tradition" created for it, which has nothing to do with football or sports.Pubs created a tradition of having to get wasted during football, state created a tradition of loving your country so much, that you beat the hell out of anyone if you loose etc.It has nothing to do with the sport per se, the fault is clearly somewhere else.
As for what this idiots are doing...Beating your wife etc for loosing of your national team, how pathetic can you be?

now now, I don't think we should blame sports--sports are fun, they're fun to bet on (lol) and they're fun to be passionate about. There is nothing more thrilling in my opinion, besides sex, than to see your team score a goal when you're on the edge of your seat and wondering what will happen next--it really is Euphoric.
however, I think one should be the bigger man when their team loses; I follow two teams, and one of them got slaughtered today (Mexico), and I don't go around beating up on women. that's cowardice. so rather than blame sports, we should respond to those who react in a cowardice way, beating on those physically weaker than themselves. it's antithetical to being a man, and dishonorable.
But to blame sports? that's unfair to a legitimate profession and past time.

I sometimes wonder if following sports or groups or clubs etc. help satisfy humanity's need to want to be in a tribe--in modern times, we don't really have "tribes" so to speak, so we create artificial ones--man is a pack animal, afterall. we descend from primates who are also pack animals. it makes logical sense.

This is absolutely horrifying, who knew sports teams losing would lead to domestic violence? I seriously thought at first that this was a joke thread. :(

The problem is that way too many idiots are into sports. Sports thrive on brutish types and crazy fans, the crazier the better, who binge drink and act aggressive every time they watch their favorite team play.

Again; there is nothing wrong with getting piss drunk while watching sports and acting dusevnobolnoy; it's a pastime that has been around for millenia; the problem is when you get people who can't hold their liquor, or who have a violent tendency towards alcohol, or anger issues, whatever--and they take it out on those weaker than them.
but that doesn't mean we should penalize the 90% because 10% act like jackasses.

I'm no fan of sports but I'm definitely not asking for penalization of sports fans! (unless of course domestic violence cases keep being on the raise due to it) I think some of them do act like idiots though and it's really no fun to be around them. And I doubt that it's 10% vs. 90% when it comes to jackass behavior... It's good to know these people who are prone to violent behavior and like to get piss drunk at the same time while watching sports are under watch by the police.

The sport is fine, but the amount of Nationalism that some of the English put into the World Cup every time it come around is completely unnecessary. Turns people into fucking morons.

Wasn't that supossed to be a link to St George? Still nationalist nonetheless ofcourse but doesn't haver to be explicitly anti-muslim.
St George's Cross (or the Cross of St George) is a red cross on a white background used as a symbolic reference to Saint George (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_George). The red cross on white was associated with St George from medieval times.
St George's Cross has been adopted on the coat of arms and flags of several countries and cities which have St George as a patron saint, notably England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England), Georgia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_%28country%29), Aragon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aragon), Greece (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greece), Genoa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genoa) and Barcelona (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcelona).
Many Patronages of Saint George (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patronages_of_Saint_George) exist around the world, including: Aragon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aragon), Catalonia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalonia), England (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/England), Ethiopia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethiopia), Georgia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_%28country%29), Greece (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greece), Lithuania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithuania), Palestine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestine), Portugal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portugal) and Russia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia), as well as the cities of Amersfoort (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amersfoort), Beirut (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beirut), Fakiha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fakiha), Bteghrine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bteghrine), Cáceres (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C3%A1ceres,_Spain), Ferrara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferrara), Freiburg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freiburg), Ljubljana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ljubljana), Pomorie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomorie), Preston (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preston), Qormi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qormi), Rio de Janeiro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_de_Janeiro), Lod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lod), Barcelona (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcelona), Moscow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow), Tamworth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamworth) and the Maltese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malta) island of Gozo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gozo), as well as a wide range of professions, organizations and disease sufferers.

No offense to any englishmen or women on here, but your sports fans are the poorest sports I ever seen. It hadn't been an hour after the loss against Germany and they were already making racial slurs against the Italian Coach.

I know this is getting dangerously close to being moved to the sports section (and possibly offending someone, which is not my intention), but the Premier league is only good because they hire expensive foreigners from Portugal, Brazil, West Africa, etc.

also, yes foreign players are the reason the premier leauge is awesome, but havingforeign players is the only reason the itallian german french spanish leauges are even still going.
I like watching lower leages though, more entertaining, i hate watching anyone who is paid thousands for kicking a ball.

we should set up distribution centers where women who are afraid of their husbands can get free tazers. (and slip a pamphlet in there telling women that if they need protection from their own husband/lover/whatever, they should probably leave his stupid ass).

Don't say football never did any good, because a group of footballers opened a can of whoopas on that mothafucka

ha, not to mention, there are some football clubs that ally themselves with antifascists and leftwingers; Celtic FC and St Pauli are but two examples.
