Hey all,

A good friend of mine was bent over by her former employer, they wernt giving her the minimum required break time and eventually quit over it. When she left they held her last months pay, and 6 months later she still hasnt got it (the wont talk to her) and she is taking legal action.

However, she is organising a small picket of the bussiness to make customers (or potential ones) aware of the bussinesses treatment of their emloyees to apply a little more pressure on the owners. Anyone know of any legal issues we could run into in doing this?

Any other advice welcome

(should mention we are in the UK)

Thanks in advance

I think you're allowed to picket (stand outside and explain your reason why customers shouldn't use the shop) but if you're saying incorrect information about the shop you risk being sued.

If you try and prevent entry you're breaking the law.

This.

Take a look at slander/defamation laws for where ever you're at, and make sure you can prove what you're saying is true (because "it was true" is usually the best defence against a slander case).

Generally picketing outside of the organization/workplace is quite lawful, but if you are going to picket at a secondary location, make sure you know how big your protest is in relation to your public nuisance/intimidation (tort) laws.
