Business growth in conflict with the environment.

Our political leaders, in the run up to the last election clashed and argued over many issues - all of those issues entirely predictable and all part of the pitiful cut and thrust of capitalism. One subject which all of the three leaders agreed on, however, was the need to return to growth. Economic growth comes at a cost and is a necessary requirement for the successful running of capitalism.

Glenn Morris hopes to illustrate through personal observations and experiences how society's love affair with economic growth is entirely incompatible with the well being of people and the environment.
As a managing director of a business himself Glenn has seen first hand the problems that arise when the profit motive clashes with employee and environmental welfare.

Speaker: Glenn Morris

Saturday 3rd July 6pm at:

Socialist Party of Great Britain Head Office
52 Clapham High Street
London
SW4 7UN

Nearest tube: Clapham North

Glenn spent many months living with the Inuit of North West Greenland and realised that they are experiencing very real and tangible changes to an environment that has up until now supported their culture and way of life. He interviewed a number of them and listened to their concerns over the changes in weather patterns, early ice break-up and progressively more dangerous hunting conditions, Here in the so-called western world we live in a state of staggering complacency and our concerns and actions in relation to our environment and the future of our beautiful planet are at best insignificant gestures.

Glenn is a highly experienced mountaineer and his previous expeditions include the world’s first unsupported crossing of Spitzbergen and the first British crossing of Greenland taking the route used by the great Norwegian explorer, Fridjtof Nansen. He has also canoed the full length of Canada’s longest river, the Mackenzie. Glenn is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a member of the Climbers’ Club and Arctic Club.
