This is what I like with the Catholic Church. Its also their only redeeming feature, and that is that they have some sort of sense of self-distance and humour, at least in comparison with protestant denominations.

Could you imagine for example Pat Robertson praise a comedy with two evangelical christian petty criminals who are trying to re-assemble their blues band?

Blues Brothers rocks by the way. At least the first movie.

What i find bizarre about the Catholic Church is that it upholds the belief that some guy in the desert who claimed to be the son of god was the son of god, and then he performed magic tricks, died, and came back to life.

Yet they won't admit that there was possibly a female pope at one point in time, (http://www.vancouversun.com/story_print.html?id=3180239&sponsor=) or other various claims made "against" them.

What is the Vatican praising the Blues brothers for?

Basically, because the main characters are putting themselves in a lot of trouble to save a catholic orphanage. That Jake and Elwood are using a lot of blackmail to get it through though...

NOT SELLING ANYTHING HERE!

But I'm Catholic and there is a certain joi de vie that one gets into with accepting this particular way of life. It has little to do with philosophy or religion--but Catholicism lets you enjoy--in a full and lusty way the good that life gives you. There are rules, plenty of them, but they aren't as harsh as many others and the sacrifices are already done and paid for.

Things aren't alway easy, Commies often hate you, Protestants dispise you and you have to be faithful to the same woman FOREVER--but it's fun and funny if done right.

Even if I didn't believe in God--I'd still be a Catholic--all being said, it's a good way to go through life.

Maybe I was selling something--anyway, nothing I don't believe. Take it as just a bit of personal philosophy. :)

I am a religious person, a former catholic, but I like to keep my religion as basic as possible--I don't believe in a god with human traits (that would be a grave insult to a higher power to assume it has human emotions, which are for all purposes, imperfect), but at the same time, I believe in a higher state of benevolence that, doesn't so much offer deliverance as much as keep the order of the universe and regulates the flow of karma; call it a Dharmic belief, if you will, but by no means am I an atheist.
