 I wanted to add my own thoughts to this, but I really couldn't think of anything funnier than the article itself.

"There is so much on offer in England from stunning coastline and chocolate-box villages to buzzing cities offering excellent regional cuisine and attractions.

chocolate-box villages?

never heard that expression before. it sounds delicious though. like the villages have buildings full of chocolate.

Maybe they're just jealous that Scotland only has shortbread-tin villages?

Come to think of it, I'm not sure if there really are villages on either chocolate boxes or shortbread tins. Hmm...

English fans have responded by wearing SNP shirts, with the initials standing for Scotland Not Playing

I've not seen or heard about this bit, but it's absolute genius.

These are Britain's Potemkin villages... nobody lives there, a person or vehicle in this picture would make it too real to be of any marketing value :p

It refers to quaint little rural hamlets that you might see painted on the lid of a chocolate or biscuit box.

I think biscuit box is more to the point than chocolate box. I mean chocolate boxes are designed to have sex appeal, if that's the right wording.

Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.

Is the character who says that stupid or something? Not only do most chocolates have an obvious appearance according to what kind they are, there's usually a leaflet of some sort telling you what is what.
