who here likes baudeliare, rimbaud, comte de lautremont, etcetera? they are some of my favorite poets, maybe not in style but certainly in spirit. baudelaire made out of whores beautiful maidens and he celebrated absynthe and opium until syphilis rotted his brain. rimbaud wrote hiss magnus opus when he was 16, participated in a wild gay romance and walked by foot through all north africa only to die early and probably crazy.

I love Rimbaud and have read one prose poem by the Comte de Lautremont, but I have yet to read anything from Baudeliare. I read The Blacksmith by Rimbaud for forensics (improv acting, prose and poetry reading) and it was enjoyable; didn't do well, but it was fun.

Baudelaire has been on my list of people I need to read for years now. I still haven't read anything though. The other two I don't know well. I've heard of Rimbuad, and I believe this is the first time I have heard of the Comte. They sound interesting though.

Comte de Lautréamont was a pseudonym of Isidore Ducasse who's Les Chants de Maldoror was a huge influence on theSurrealist movement. Like Rimbaud his creative career was brief (he died in his mid-20s) but his influence on poetry is long lasting.
