Just out of curiosity how many of you have heard of/follow the Law of Attraction? What it is is that all your mind's thoughts and images will sooner or later manifest itself into reality. You worry about getting a ticket, you will get a ticket eventually. If you focus on having a girl/boyfriend you will have one. Just thought I would let you all in on The Secret and voice your opinion on it.

I have been thinking of the same guy since I was 12.

This doesn't work.

*tears up*

I wonder how long people in Ethiopia have been thinking of food.

The self fulfilling prophecy eh? Works with current day economics and soc 101, but definitely doesn't work with getting people to like you :crying:

Wow. Talk about pandering to stereotype. Outrageous.

What stereotype? It is a country quite commonly known to suffer from food shortages. Not all people in Ethiopia are without food, but large portions of the population are. Should I have chosen a lesser known starving populace in order to please your non-conformist attitude?

Get all aggro and on the defensive if you like. I don't know what the 'non-conformist attitude' thing is about, but oh well.

We could begin with how you're comparing the law of attraction to that of some people starving to death.

We could possibly continue with the generalisation which you yourself admit of Ethiopians all being starving people and the chauvenism that goes along with that assertion.

The fact that as a group of people the assertion is wrong only adds to this in how truly bad it is. Where does the buck stop? 'I wonder how long people in Bosnia have been thinking about land mines?' 'I wonder how long Jewish people have been avoiding the showers'?

Defend it all you like, because of course I have a 'non-conformist attitude'. Make as much 'witty' one-liners about the poor starving brown people in Ethiopia all you like from your computer chair in the United States

Why are you always such a prick? Anyone with any common sense knows the law of attraction is complete shit, so I responded in a condescending way to show my distaste. Besides, this is chit-chat. Chit-chat was made for stupid one-liners.

I'm a prick. Great comeback.

it's basically "Think positive and strive to your goals". But because she wants $$$ she packages it as some kind of magical thing. I never read the book but last I heard she was acting like she was some archaeologist sifting through ancient tomes of wisdom....and came upon this "secret" of power.

Are you trying to hold onto this in particular because you haven't got a leg to stand on with your remarks about those poor ol' Ethiopians?

Are you denying that the people of Ethiopia are not receiving sufficient food intake? I'm surprised you are willing to trivialize the suffering of those people. Are you by any chance some petty-bourgeois prick who has never had to suffer a day of your life? Wouldn't surprise me to be honest. You're just a troll. I really see no point in continuing this little fight you are instigating.

Are you saying that there is no class divide amongst Ethipian society, and that they are all just poor starving people?

I'm surprised you are willing to trivialize the suffering of those people

Coming from the man that compared it to the law of attraction.

This is classic. Not having an argument against the blatant chauvenism on display, so let's turn it into having a go about class relations of someone I've never met! Genius. Though to be honest I don't think a racial profiler calling me petit bourgeous is going to make me lose any sleep.

I think there is some truth in the concept that if you are able to really formulate a clear picture in your mind of what you want to achieve then this can help you be more successful I attaining your goals. However I do have a problem with the way these ideas are packaged by the US as a kind of magical get rich quick scheme. It's like a new religion for the neo-liberals.

It isn't a new idea. It's just "the power of positive thinking" marketed in a new way.

QFT.

And there's another secret that mixes well with positive thinking, positive action.

Whats with you? Looking at all your posts ive seen on this site in general (including on my visitor messages), you really need a sense of humor

Sam_b

A sense of humour making chauvenist statements such as this? You think such a thing is funny? If so you are a pseudo-leftist moron who thinks that making reactionary statements and racial generalisations for humour is acceptable. Well I'll tell you sonething son, seeing as you obviously need it explained to you - it isn't.

Sorry if you're aggrivated at someone taking a revolutionary line, if you even now what one is.
