Re post from indymedia,

Dear Comrades,

This is a call for antifascist action coalition. On August, 28th the English Defense League is planning to take the streets of Bradford. To date the revolutionary left failed to show a unified response that militantly challenges the politics of the EDL. The bigoted nationalist ideology of the EDL as well as the oppressive and reactionary influence of Islamism in our communities, both divide the working class. Therefore the Anarchist Federation Leeds calls for all independent proletarian antifascists in the region to work together. Work together for an antifascist coalition that can win the fight on the streets for the anti-capitalist offensive of the working class. In this respect the tactics applied in a recent confrontation with the EDL in Newcastle can be seen as successful. As AF Leeds we would like to build on this experience and propose a united political response of the revolutionary left, that will show our strength as well as allow a diversity of people to attend the protest before the EDL dares to march. Let's create an antifascist coalition that can militantly fight fascist activities in West-Yorkshire. Bash the EDL! Let's get organised!

First meeting :

July, 3rd at 1 pm

Swarthmore Education Centre
2 - 7 Woodhouse Square

What tactics deployed in Newcastle? The local firm, the 'Gremlins' giving some EDL a kicking or the sort of party/counter-demo put on? A combo?
Can any Leeds AFers answer this?

I was with NEAR in Newcastle and we got round police lines, and got in the EDL faces just telling them what a disgrace they are. Some of them attempted to attack odd people but they mainly decided not to due to the fact they only attack others when the odds are 10 to 1 in their favour. What we need to do is be as disruptive as possible while being as non-violent as is possible. If someone sends me a PM nearer the time re. Bradford that would be great as I think I'm going to get the train down for it with some friends.

And the Gremlins are probably mainly pro-EDL.

I imagine the majority will be festival type music anti racist thing, but those in the militant left will be trying to get in their faces and disrupt their fascist march..

Isn't this almost exactly how the EDL feels about Islam, and why you HATE them? You guys really need to ...recallibrate.. your political views. It's no wonder nobody shows up to your riots.

No, the reason why people hate the EDL is because they are deluded right wingers who use extremist Islam as a tool to attack Muslims and Asians in the UK.

We are as against terrorism and extreme Islam as anybody is, just the left are not stupid enough to go about it like the brutish, racist EDL thugs do which is only going to push moderate Muslims towards extremism.

The EDL are causing extremism in the UK, not fighting it.
