Two recent books: Radical Politics in Modern Ireland: A History of the Irish Socialist Republican Party (ISRP) 1896-1904 by David Lynch, and James Connolly: A Full Life by Donal Nevin.

Two recent books: Radical Politics in Modern Ireland: A History of the Irish Socialist Republican Party (ISRP) 1896-1904 by David Lynch, and James Connolly: A Full Life by Donal Nevin.
Nevin's biography is iffy at best - too much looking through right-wing social democracy tinted glasses.

Nevin's book on Connolly's writings and correspondence, Between Comrades is much better.

The book I would recommend is Emmet O'Connor's Syndicalism in Ireland.

I haven't read these so I'm not sure how good they are (although Rebel City is on my list), but here they are for it's worth:

Rebel City: Larkin, Connolly, and the Dublin Labor Movement--John Newsinger (http://www.sinnfein.org/shop.html)

The Life and Times of James Connolly--C. Desmond Greaves (http://www.amazon.com/Life-Times-James-Connolly/dp/0853152349/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277415881&sr=1-1)

Or, you could just read what he wrote himself. I took the liberty of doing the Amazon search for you. The results are here (http://www.amazon.com/James-Connolly/e/B001HPSELE/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1277416076&sr=1-1). I suppose you could also ask over at the IRSP's forums (http://rsmforum.proboards.com/index.cgi). I'm sure they'd be helpful as well.
