View Full Version : Anyone know anything about natural gas detectors?

So I was cleaning my bike chain with methyl hydrate in a room with a window open, and once I took the chain out of one jar and put it into a jar full of soapy water the natural gas/carbon monoxide alarm goes off. I can't smell anything so I have no idea what's happening.

Am I going to die?

Carbon monoxide is odorless bro, get out of the house.

It could be that the battery on the detector is about to die, depending on the detector, I know some go off right before the battery dies.

I opened all the windows and turned on fans to circulate air, it stopped beeping at me.

However, I'm pretty sure my detector says "CO" when it's carbon monoxide, and "GAS" when it's gas. I also changed the battery.

Oh well at least it's not beeping anymore so I should be in the clear?

If the alarm is not going off, then either the battery is dead (do check it to make sure) or the fumes in your house are below the level where the detector can read them. If it's the latter, then you are in the clear.
