Opinions, thoughts, questions on her and not just the video I posted as the video is sort of generalized and geared towards people that are perhaps new to the struggles she's involved in.

I actually really love her; The God of Small Things is an amazing book and I think she's incredibly intelligent and talented. I don't know too much of her other material; I browsed Walking With Comrades (I think that's what it was called) and have listened to various lectures from her (Come September as well as her lecture from the Left Forum this year). I really appreciate her analyses and her voice.
I think I've noticed that some people here sort of resent the academic nature of people like Roy, which I find troubling.

Uninpressive in her logic on the videos-but cute.
I hope she has more to say than this.
But definitely hot.

You watched 11 mins of video on her, of course she has more to say. Maybe you should stick to audio recordings though because it seems you'll just reduce her to "cuteness" if you keep watching videos.

I only see what I was shown.
Maybe there's more--but these videos only showed her relying on "cuteness."
Got more? Than let's see it. I have an open mind.
From the first video:
"Armed struggle is being opposed VISCIOUSLY by the state."
It's ARMED STRUGGLE! How do you think the "state" is going to take it? Just because you are cute doesn't mean eveybody's going to love eveything you do. Cute only gets you so far--don't be so suprised.
I actually really love her;
Cappies have a more disciplined mind (in some cases!)
Enjoy anyways.

Sometimes when I'm at the University Library, I overhear people having conversations with one another while pretending to read through newspapers. I heard this Indian guy trying to convince a Swede that Roy was the devil herself because she was pro-naxalite.
I saw her on a documentary regarding the situation for the poors of India, and I must say that her compassion for them seems genuine. Haven't read the God of Small things though I have it. :blushing:

I highly recommend it. I don't read much fiction (I actually had to read God of Small Things for a class), but it was captivating. I have nothing against fiction, but I find myself reading theory or philosophy before fiction in my free time. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
And I think she is a very genuine person; maybe that's why Bud Struggle can't get over how cute she is.

I can't believe I just wasted three minutes of my life reading that groundless crap.
Anyway, I suspect the lady is a self promoter. Something about that fabulous rose-colored shawl. It's in the "red" spectrum, true, but it's a little too ... fetching.
On edit: not that I find self-promotion objectionable. But I question her revolutionary bona fides.

She can make teenaged Commies fall in love with here--that has to count for something. :D

I find your attempt to condescend through ageism quite endearing.
Anyway, I'm pretty excited for her new novel, too. It'll be one of the main fictional novels I read this summer, I'm sure.

I think the Capitalists on this board need better sex lives, when Bud can't get over that a political activist is cute, and robert gets turned on by describing what men find attractive, theres a problem.

LCHAIRMANMAO.
But in all seriousness, I think she's a great radical left intellectual, in addition to being very cute. But it seems some people get a little.....fixated.
Sexual frustration seems to be a recurring theme among many leftists, from which I do not exclude myself.

Live isn't all business or politics or all serious. Sometimes you have to laugh at yourself and occasionally at others. Treating a woman a just a political being is just as bad as treating her as just a sexual creature.
If humanity is to advance we have to become more relaxed with who we are and how we behave toward wach other. To pretend that sexuality doesn't exist is just as bad as being a sexual pig.
Being "Politically Correct" is as bad as being a total a-hole. Can't we just be honest and polite at the same time?
In fact Political Correctness is nothing more than a crude aproximation of politness. FWIW: I've always tried to be polite here on RevLeft--never Politically Correct.

I don't really make a distinction between the two. Actually, I guess I thought of "political correctness" as politeness for people who don't know how to be.
Either way I like Arundhati Roy a lot and like hearing her speak but I find myself sort of putting what she's saying in the background, which is what I usually do when I listen to speakers. I should probably look into her writing.

The problem is here she doesn't say much in these clips. The first one she muses over what's in the middle between peaceful and armed resistance--nice and all, but nothing profound. And the second one she doesn't like the War in Iraq (me neither!) and goes on a bit about India playing the "Great Game" --but you are right, maybe there's something in her writings.

"Walking with the Comrades" (I haven't read all of this, myself): http://www.anonym.to/?http://www.countercurrents.org/roy220310.htm
Transcript of her lecture "Come September": http://www.nmazca.com/verba/roy.htm
She does have a very pleasant voice so I understand why some people may find it difficult to listen to her. I tend to be pretty attentive (opposite of ADD, I imagine), so I don't have that issue, but for those that do, those two links should give an idea of what she does.
Again, read The God of Small Things because she is a really good writer.

Leftists think too much, and thinking too much is an intrinsic obstacle to sexual satisfaction. True facts, mane.
