joe Higgins, MEP for the Socialist Party in Ireland (CWI) comments on the revolutionary struggle in Nepal (http://www.joehiggins.eu/2010/06/video-highlighting-the-revolutionary-struggles-of-workers-and-poor-in-nepal/):

At a Plenary Session of the European Parliament, Joe Higgins MEP highlights the revolutionary struggles of the working class and the peasants in Nepal who are striving to overthrow the brutal poverty and repression that exists in Nepal in favour of a democratic, socialist society.

Joe also criticises the incorrect tactics of the Maoists and Communist Party in Nepal for entering into right-wing coalitions and for subordinating the struggle for socialism to second place behind capitalist democracy which means a continuation of poverty and repression. (17-06-10)

Nice that he's paying some attention to what's going on, although his description of the situation is a bit sketchy to say the least.

I gotta ask though - why on earth was an Irish MEP speaking in the European parliament about Nepal? Did he just do it on a whim, or were there specific reasons?

Probably something like trade relations with the Indian subcontinent, or another lame agendapoint, I don't know though. It doesn't really matter either as he's just using the European parliament for what its for: a nice podium for commies
