Welcome to a new thread, in which I'll be posting articles that describe the sort of oppression and injustice that Nepal needs a revolution to overcome. It'd be good to see other people posting stuff as well.

SARLAHI: In a barbaric and inhumane act, locals of Janakingar VDC in the district on Sunday forced all the members of a neighbouring Dalit family to eat human excreta accusing the family of practicing witchcraft.

Locals of the VDC led by Mahendra Mahato fed human excreta to the Dalit family alleging that they had made Mahatos daughter-in-law ill by practicing witchcraft.

According to Haripur Area Police Office, they thrashed Akalu Mahara (60) of Janakinagar-1, his wife Liladevi (56) and son Fekan Mahara (25) before feeding them with faecal matter.

According to Mahatos neighbour, Deep Narayan Shah, Mahatos daughter-in-law has been suffering from stomach-ache for a long time.

According to Bharat Yadav, head constable, Area Police Office Haripur, Mahendra Mahato, Jogi Mahato, Shambhu Siwakoti including others dragged the Mahara family out of their house and thrashed them in the middle of the village before getting into the barbaric and cowardly act of feeding human excreta. We later found that the perpetrators had fed them with excreta after they fell unconscious, he said.

My neighbour Mahendra Mahato including others forced us to eat human excreta, said Liladevi, who had reached the Area Police Office to lodge a complaint. They also thrashed my husband and son.

A dejected Liladevi said she was devastated that none of the villagers came to their rescue. Nor did anyone speak against the perpetrators, she said.

According to DSP Yunarayan Baidhya, the victims could not lodge the complaint immediately as the perpetrators kept on intimidating them of serious consequences. We have arrested Mahendra Mahato and Jogi Mahato. We are searching for others involved in the crime, said Baidhya.
