I'm quite surprised to find that there is no discussion on this topic yet. I know a lot of you are Australian's and i'm sure this enrages you as much as it does me. If you don't know about what is going on have a look through this website: nocleanfeed dot com (can't post links yet)
I would like to hear your views on this topic and what you think we can do to stop this from happening.
Edit:
Here is a list of proposed banned websites

Yeah, I am absolutely disgusted that this is even able to be brought up in Australian politics without it utterly destroying the credibility of the politician or party proposing it.
However, the Greens at least have promised to vote against any legislation as has Nick Xenophon. The liberals might be persuaded, althoguh they do have some very vocal opponents of it (like Joe Hockey) so there is a small chance that if the liberals vote against the legislation, that it will not be possible to implement it.

What disturbs me the most is the almost complete lack of public and media attention going into this. The government of course doesn't not want us to know about this, otherwise it would have released the list of proposed banned websites. Shouldn't that be enough to start a media fire or bring the topic into the workplace, place of learning or social meeting? I'm fearful that majority of my fellow Australians care more about who wins the football and what they are going to have for dinner tonight than their freedoms and way of life.
I did attend a protest in Brisbane about 2 months ago and only 20 people showed up. We made little to no impact at all, the media completely ignored our phone calls and half the people there didn't even know what was going on. They just thought it would be 'fun'.
Wake up Australia! Our future is being taken out of our hands piece by piece!
Right-wing moral panics are a great way to destroy the flow of information and make sure the lower classes aren't able to stimulate their minds. First it's "think of the children!", then they block "terrorist" sites, that is, any site with an anti-imperialist stance, and after that... well, that's when it gets crazy. It's all in the same vein as the War on Terror and similar half-assed fronts for limiting political freedom.
Now, cue authoritarians defending this kind of censorship in 3... 2...

Does anyone else know of other protests happening around the country, or has the issue fallen into the background? I went to one in Perth (where fascists tried to hijack it) and we got an alright turnout - probably about 150 people.
Honestly though, the excuse for censoring the internet is so piss-poor. You'd think if people were downloading child porn through a medium that could be easily tracked and censored (i.e not peer-to-peer) the authorities could simply find them and arrest them.
WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN, etc.

The only group I know doing anything about it is Anonymous. Unfortunately they are very misunderstood (even by a large amount of it's own members) and uses predominantly technology based protesting aka hacktivism. They do however discuss a lot of relevant topics and occasionally organise protests. If you have the time and patience here is a few good starting places:
projectfreeweb dot org - Official website.
encyclopaediadramatica dot com slash project_freeweb - Encyclopaedia Dramatica entry (Tread lightly)
note: Will edit links when post count becomes high enough to do so.

Oh please, everybody knows that "Anonymous" is really just 4chan and its sister sites. Worst kept secret on the internet.

That's my point.
That's my point.
I was putting stress on the contrast between communist and state.
Do you know the difference between the Marxian periods of communism and the dictatorship of the proletariat?

Ah, sorry. I thought you were taking the prevalent capitalist viewpoint of most people in the world that a "communist state" can exist.

I hate censorship and it is sad to see other nations mobilizing to follow their example.

Everybody is not actualy everybody in society. 4chan is just a subculture on the internet. Even if you know about 4chan you can aviod it.

I think it's disgusting that the fascist regime would dare to censor our internet. Soon Australia will be as slow net wise as Iran or China! No way! Hands off our internet Rudd!

It's funny that because many are claiming Rudd is a communist what with his frequent trips to China and all and they're claiming Australia will turn in to a "communist country" because it's following the examples of China and the like.

Haha! That's a laugh. Rudd is a fascist. I hope one day Australia becomes Communist, but we need to organise and fight for that.

Careful with your free usage of the term 'fascist'.

 Honestly, our government is a complete joke.
What really grinds my gears is how everyone treats Rudd differently because he's not John Howard. My mother does this so much but it actually seems to be prevalent in Australian society amongst people with liberal attitudes. They wouldn't support Howard's treatment of refugees or the Work Choices legislation but they don't give a shit that Labour is locking up refugees in conditions worse than our prisons and re-opening Curtin DC while the ABCC terrorizes construction workers under legislation that Rudd has done nothing about, I mean a lot of Work Choices was never even axed anyway. They say Rudd is having a hard time and he has good intentions, I say bull-fucking-shit.
Truly, if John Howard wanted to censor our internet you would see so much liberal rage over it.

I doubt you would see much liberal rage over it at all. There are a few liberals that support the plan, even if many of them (particularly Joe Hockey and his boys) vehemently oppose it. I reckon a certain amount of the opposition would decrease if they were actually in power though. So yeah, how would you see "so much liberal rage over it"? The liberals tend to be pretty supportive of their own policies when they are in power. They don't self-criticise much.

I'm talking about liberals in general as opposed to the Liberals.
Relating to what you said about Joe Hockey, I actually remember seeing a video or an article of some sort where he gave a speech on freedom.

Not entirely related, but still amusing.
'Why won't those evil socialists let us victimize refugees? What's the matter with people? Why are you censoring us?!'

I think most liberals in general don't particularly care about the internet given they are mostly wealthy people and business owners. Like I said, their partisan support is more relevant to them than concerns about the internet, and they do love it when one of their own is in power (such as Howard).
Mollymae: The government wanted to include depictions of small-breasted women because they supposedly resemble under-18 females in the censorship.

apparently it isn't small tits porn. but it could be a factor if a woman who is 18 looks too young. the point of it was mostly banning high school uniform and the porn actress stating her fictional age.

ahh, I see. I don't think I would agree with outlawing that sort of thing, but some of the porn that flaunts youth can be kind of disturbing. For example, there's an adult film store in my town that has a sign that advertises "BARELY LEGAL films!"
