Any other Godspeed fans here?
In my opinion, they are arguably the best band/artist of the last 20 years.

Great band. One of the best, if not thee best in their genre. Their music is of a whole other world. What's your favorite album? I'd probably say Lift Your Skinny Fists...
Apparently they're reuniting for a handful of shows? Oh god, I'm fucking excited :thumbup1:

Aren't they similar to "Explosions in the Sky" or am I confused?

GY!BE is still one of my all-time favorite bands. No matter how much I listen to them, I always find something new in their songs.

I love Lift! ''Sleep'' is probably my favorite song.

Kinda. I'd say that GY!BE is a lot more ponderous and has a greater diversity of instrumentation. They're both post-rock, though.

Than I guess I like them too.

The first time I heard the first side of Levve Vous Skinny Fists Comme Antennaes to Heaven my mind was blown. I was obsessed with EITS for a while as well. I don't listen to post-rock a ton anymore (I think I kinda didn't find a lot more bands that were as rewarding as the aforementioned, so I had to kind of get into other stuff), but I still go back to it and its really good stuff. That kind of music is on paper the best kind in the world--very sincere and serious but also very DIY, but in practice it's hard to do it well. You also have to be in a certain mood to listen sometimes (which I guess is true of any music, but I'm less often in the mood for GYBE and EITS as I used to be).

Godspeed is my favorite band-their fused music pushing and propelling post-rock into new territories that bands like Mogwai could not even sojourn or venture. I listen to Lift Your skinny fists on Vinyl frequently, and love Static and Sleep, both epitomizing an inevitable post-apocalyptic sentiment. It is quite astounding how evocative and enigmatic their music is-you can try exfoliating strictly the layers of their music, but you need to understand how politics plays a tremendous role in being a shaping force for their music. This is the band of provocation!

Post-rock in general is a very moody genre for me. It's also a genre that is dependent on atmosphere (as in, my own atmosphere), so I find that I don't listen to Godspeed or Explosions much outside of reading/studying or walking through forests.

I know this topic is essentially dead, but I didn't feel like creating a new topic just to muse on the matter of Godspeed and their musical excellence.
So has anyone seen them live recently or is anyone planning to see them now that they finally ended their hiatus? I have a ticket to see them in new york in march, should be good fun.

I want to see a Godspeed show !! :|
Also yes, awesome band. Interestingly enough one of the few (and the first) Post-Rock bands I listen to. And their members seems to have agreeable politics, too - for example their Drummer has, I believe, identified as an Anarchist numerous times, and also has a side-project called Bakunin's Bum.

I saw them at the Troxy in Limehouse a few weeks ago. They were very good but I think A Silver Mt Zion are better live.

Where do you live? Last I checked, there were still tickets available for the show at Terminal 5.

They are very good, if you like them also check out A Silver Mt Zion, as mentioned.
I too prefer the album titled "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven".

Yeah, Lift your Skinny Fists is my personal favorite as well, it certainly is a spectacular album.
And I am quite sure that Terminal 5 still has tickets left, I bought mine only a few weeks ago so I can't imagine they have sold out. It was just lucky that they happened to release dates after the initial round of New York shows, as those sold out in a matter of hours.

Fantastic band, but there is just something about Yanqui U.X.O. that puts me off it. It's like an abrasive pad forever grinding away on the side of my face. Everything else is gold though.

Great band. Too bad no post-rock bands ever come through the South (U.S.). Of course, I can't blame them.

No offense to the great state of Alabama or anything, but I could see a band like godspeed being chased out of a venue by an angry mob of pitchfork and torch waving republicans.

Quite.
I'm also quite a fan of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, myself.

New York's a bit of a trek for me.
Then again so is Philly.
