Sorry if this has been posted before but....

Social democrats( sorry "democratic socialists" ) in this country would have you believe that Scandinavian countries are model societies where even the capitalists have a social conscience(hence providing some tenuous justification for their own chickenshit class-collaberation). The above article, however, reveals that even Scandinavian capitalists can be callous and unscrupulous in their pursuit of the "bottom line".

So, if any of you "democratic socialists" are reading this - explain yourselves!

I am fucking ashamed of my country. We're told to be proud of corporations like Novo Nordisk and Mærsk, even by our "socialist" parties, and then our media ignores stories like this.

And trying to call Scandinavia, or at least Denmark, a social democratic paradise is ridiculous, since our current government is liberal in name and practice.

Actually, Denmark is a pretty good country to look at if you want to study the pitfalls and inevitable failure of social democracy. We've been trying it out since the 1930's, and it hasn't worked out in anyone's favour except the ruling bourgeoisie.

and it hasn't worked out in anyone's favour except the ruling bourgeoisie.

I think that's been the idea all along. Though, these days they've realised that it can be done a lot cheaper if you just throw aside all that pretend social-mindedness and just go full-throttle free-market, thus the last 30-years or so of liberalisation and privatisations in the Nordic countries.

No, I think that the social-democrats of the 30's-60's actually believed they were making some kind of progress, but since then they've been taken over by bourgeois career-politicians. In any case, the only result of social-democratic policies has been the breaking down of class consciousness.

I've been meaning to write a condensed history of Denmark as a parliamentary "democracy" in the History section for a while. Might actually get around to it after this
