Sid Hatfield gunned down Baldwin-Felts detective scum after the latter tried to kick out the miners from their houses even if what he was doing was clearly illegal. He later was murdered by baldwin-felts thugs and he wholeheartdly supported the miners struggle in the virginia mine-fields. His murder was partly a catalyst for the battle of blair mountain, where thousands of "red-necks" armed themselves to the teeth stood up against the mine company' private armies.

The soldiers who shot 20 striking workers to death in Pennsylvania during the Great Upheaval Strike (1877) reported that, as they fled Pittsburgh, even the police were shooting at them.

We do not care about the heart of cops ad their goodness, but about their place in society. And that is to be the dogs of their masters. Hard biting, harder barking! Of course, most cops are workers and thus if a bit conscious should help workers. But this will never happen, 'cause a conscious worker wouldn't become a guard of his enemies. Eh, but there are exceptions...:)

I don't know about the good detectives, but the baddest detective is easily John Shaft. Even if he's a private detective.

i think what is crucial here is that we are talking about a small town with a few elected officials. I assume this includes this cop guy. So we're talking about an elected cop. Quite a far cry from police departments nowadays.
