Well my studies have finished, my cash reserves are all but gone and im not sure where to head.

Was planning to reskill as a paramedic, but they aint taking any on this year (and with the cuts planned wont be expecting any oppourtunities next year) Used to work in broadcasting, but dont want to go back to that (soul destroying), have a few years in warehousing and cabinet making under my belt (i actually really liked that) but fuck all work available and whats available is for pennies, do make a little money from music but not enough to live, could go on the dole.... which is tempting but i want to clear some debt which is imposible in that situation.

What people think?

To work or not to work, that is the question.

Work might be soul destroying but you cant live without money. In terms of real world practicality, education is overrated and employers value work experience and your preparedness to suck cock over knowledge.

Suck it up and get a job if youre lucky enough to be able to get one.

End of.

I assume you are in Australia? I don't know the situation there but would substitute teaching in a local high school or elementary school be a possibility? You may not get called in often but if you do, you can sometimes do alright. High school students can be hard on substitutes but little kids are a blast to work with.

Can you combine being on the dole ("collecting" is the euphemism in the States) with under the table work in construction, farmin/ranch work or something similiar?

? Im not a qualified teacher, would be fun though, little kids rock! (but teenagers suck, sorry teens but its true, i know, i was one  ) besides im not sure about criminal background checks, although i have no convictions/cautions ect, i have more than my fare share of arrests:(

Under the table work is an option as i get a little from music so it will help.

Oh and well spotted, im from australia but in the uk, what do the call it here? Need to learn the lingo if im heading to the job centre :D

Arrests don't really matter for the vast majority of jobs. Employers look for convictions.

I dunno about a formal setting, but when I taught kids how to swim, I was told it was for convictions. Like possession charges, and random arrests won't matter. I can only assume its the same with teaching, background checks for working with children are pretty generic.

Yes, find a job. It will be a good, though most possible miserable experience. And of course, you need the money and the experience. Don't waste your time.

In the US a background check is done for anyone who applies to work with children or teenagers. My understanding this is a check of the gov't databases to see if one has a criminal record. It takes about a month.Being arrested isn't necesarily a barrier.I don't know the situation in the UK.You may want to check with schools or a temp agency which handles substitute teachers. The job centre might help, but they might just provide "officialese"

You can also always clean houses and move people's stuff with ads on craigslist or somesuch. Those are one of those strange industries where it's actually pretty easy to undercut your competition when starting out or if it's not permanent.
