I took a jazz class in school last term, while it took the fun out of listening to jazz for a while, I got some exposure to people I had not listened to before.

While some of the old school dudes, like Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington grew on me, Weather Report is still my favourite :thumbup1:

Ornette Coleman is probably my favorite. Shape Of Jazz To Come and Change of The Century are flawless. Cecil Taylor is a dude that hasn't been mentioned yet. His record, Unit Structures is pretty fantastic. Also, Sun Ra was great.

I like a few: Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk.

The rest of my jazz would be more heavier, experimental, or jazz-influenced (Off Minor, The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, Swing Kids, etc.)

I don't listen to a lot of Jazz, but have always liked Coltrane's "Love Supreme".

*****es Brew has made an irrevocably profound and indelible mark in spurring me to explore the vast yet seemingly opaque territory of Jazz. The other day I exhumed Rahsaan Roland Kirk, what a phenomenal saxophonist!

James Chance / James White is pretty interesting. Contort Yourself is an amazing song and the album 'Off White' is brilliant

I'm mostly in the aforementioned Jazz-Inspired stuff. The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower, Encrypt Manuscript, Swing Kids, etc. Free Jazz would be my favorite genre of "oldschool" Jazz. Especially Charles Mingus. Weather Report is nice too.

Anyone here into more "contemporary" Jazz though?

I got into Jazz about a year ago after seeing that Ken Burns documentary box set on it. John Coltrane, Django Reinhardt, Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Bird + Dizzy amongst my favourites to listen to.
