Could it be argued that the SA were closer to being anti-semitic social democrats than corporatist fascists, like the rest of the NSDAP? Unlike the SS, the SA came from mostly working-class backgrounds, so it from the beginning had a more pro-labor outlook, and it was purged of these elements in the Night of the Long Knives.

I don't think so. For one thing, they were pretty... unfriendly to trade unionists, not just socialists and communists.

While the SA was definitely a working-class organization, they were still corporatists and fascists; probably even more so than Hitler, who the Strasser brothers criticized for being too capitalist.

wow. I thought they made that up for "Blades of Glory" :D
