"THQ and Dreamworks will announce a partnership at the show this year, which is likely more than a simply licensing deal. THQ may well join the number of publishers creating 3D games, given Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg’s enthusiasm for the technology. The company will also give a progress report on several games key to its ongoing turnaround, including 'Homefront,' a first person shooterin which Americans must retake their country after a North Korean occupation. The game may be a dark horse this year in the action genre, which could impact sales of both 'Call of Duty' and 'Medal of Honor'."

"Homefront is set in a near future America in 2027 when a now-nuclear armed Korean People's Army invades the USA, defeating the United States Army and reducing it to nothing from the superpower it once was. The game is written by John Milius who co-wrote Apocalypse Now and wrote Red Dawn."

There was some recent "alternate history" game about having to retake the United States after hardliners take over the USSR Politboro and launch an invasion of the US Northwest in the 1980s. Can't remember the name of it, though.

I'm not sure. But the game Freedom Fighters, released in 2003, was pretty similar.
"Freedom Fighters, originally titled Freedom: The Battle For Liberty Island, is a 2003 third-person shooter video game available for the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Xbox and Microsoft Windows that is set in an alternate history. The player takes the role of Christopher Stone, a plumber-turned American Resistance movement leader who fights against the Red Army that invades and occupies New York City."

Its called 'World in conflict'. Pretty cool game, I have the PC version. It has 'everybody wants to rule the world' by Tears for fears in the soundtrack.

It's written by the same person who made up Red Dawn...
I mean c'mon...why bother with ridiculous Russia or NK scenarios...people want to play a game where China invades...
Even though I doubt they have offensive capabilities for that (i.e. aircraft carriers?)

Aren't they planning on a re-make of the original Red Dawn film with China as the invaders instead of the USSR/Cuba?

Things like this get me so pissed that a very sick part of me wants scenarios liek that to actually happen. American women and children being slaughtered left and right, cities being razed to the ground, schools getting bombed, it's the shit.

to be honest though, if we should be blaming anyone for this sort of shit its the basement dwellers who will happilly fork out 80 bucks for the privilege and to a lesser extent the publisher who gave the green light. The developers are just trying to satisfy the demand and get paid.

Yeah, especially when "Most NKN vessels are small patrol-size craft unable to operate over 50 nautical miles (nm) from the coast but capable of policing the DPRK's territorial waters." - http://www.dia.mil/publicaffairs/Foia/nkor.pdf
I guess the waves of soldiers will ride nuclear warheads over from Korea.

These are all reasons why I liked Battlefield:Vietnam so much. You could actually play as the Viet Cong and win since it was primarily designed for online play. Well, that and the soundtrack was a killer mix of 60s era rock with plenty of protest songs thrown in.
What's next, Luxembourg invading USA? Oh noes!

I watched the trailer for it the other day on ign. I got so angry, I had to walk away. And then there's that fat American pig, yelling: "THE ONLY GOOD COMMUNIST IS A DEAD COMMUNIST!!!"
I will definately never play this game.

Sad thing is, I'm sure the general public will eat this game up. Especially if it's riding on the back of media hype. It's out in 9 months, we'll see.
Can we play North-Koreans? That would make it worth at least a bit of fun (I always love playing the bad guy).

During the single player campaign, definitely not.
But during multiplayer, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to play them since it's pretty much unheard for a modern shooter game not to have an online mode.
This game is ridiculous either way.

Unless I can play as DPRK and get to hunt down the remains of the US military in this game, there's no chance I'm giving a try. We don't need another game/movie where americans fight off evil communist occupiers. The thought of stupid kids (or adults) playing these political games and taking the scenarios even somewhat seriously is sad.
World In Conflict: Soviet Assault, CoD: World at War, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Red Dead Redemption....these are some games socialists would enjoy. I can't see this new game being one of them.

Doesn't this always seem to happen when there's a country that opposes the U.S.? In "Mercenaries" you're in Korea fighting North Koreans and in "Mercenaries 2: World in Flames" you're fighting in Venezuela. Both games feature leaders who are eerily similar ideologically to their real life counter parts. I have both games though , they're awesome.

I don't find that politics are particularly important in games, it's just that there almost always god awful and it's annoying.
Perfect example, Modern Warfare -- fictional war with Russian Federation, "Ultra-nationalists" use hammer and sickle as their symbol, etc that shit is stupid. The only part of that game I felt was fitting was when you kill civilians in the Moscow airport as a CIA operative. Something about that just makes sense to me.

Agreed. I anticipated that game for like a year and still wasn't prepared for how much I was going to like the game.
