I went to look for some new electronics this past week to find if there were any good sale items I might want. I stepped up to a fully on-line computer and typed in several popular Leftist websites. No problem, right? When I typed in revleft.com I got a block message stating that RevLeft was "hate" and "adult" in content. Not even my public library blocks RevLeft.

WEBSENSE HAS FILTERED THIS BECAUSE IT CONTAINS OBJECTIONABLE CONTENT:

Damn straight! I used to use ssh to tunnel out of a work proxy. What do you use for a proxy host?

It's funny because my old high school blocked most forums and message boards, but I could easily get on revleft.

Probably the same reason some people in my home town wanted The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn removed from school reading lists for reasons of racism. Believe it or not, there was actually a national furor over it and the parents doing the complaining, along with their child's teacher and the superintendent of schools at the time, all wound up on Oprah.
That's the long answer. The short answer? Stupidity.

You typed a politically-sensitive web address into a storefront computer and are surprised that it's blocked...?

No, I was surprised at what it read to justify blocking. Most places read "Blocked" and nothing more.

Does the blocker have a separate category of "politically-sensitive?" Maybe it doesn't, and the closest alternative, albeit inaccurate, was "Racism/Hate." I mean, when most people think of politically-sensitive they think of neofascists, which are inherently full of racism and hate.

Those programs aren't semantic. Since we have an entire forum devoted to racism and sexism, it probably just interpreted the links and words as being pro-discriminatory.

you guys really dont know how it work.
the classification of a website is mainly determined by the kind of word and sentences and their combination you can find in it. for exemple, on revleft, you have the world revolution, fascism, racism, hate, hatred, scum, bullshit, and many other.
so basicly, its not biaised, those classification are determined by internet bots scanning website for words and sentences, and after a deep analisys of the website in question came out with a result that is then fowarded to the main bank of blacklisted website.
really, its that simple.
