I recommend you a anime called Speed Grapher, which has strong anti-capitalism themes, showing a Japanese society completely degenerated by the love of money, and a major, likable character has a strong hatred of money.

I don't see anything wrong with this thread. There have been many threads about movies with anti-capitalist/socialist/marxist themes. Why not one for anime?

I would suggest going through Hayao Miyzaki's animated works. Most of his films idealize the working class while demonizing the industrialists. While he moved away from such an overt message with his more recent films, they still contain anti-capitalist/industrialist/globalist themes. Also, they're beautifully animated.

Not anti-capitalist, but Black Lagoon has an episode where they kill a bunch of Nazi fucks. I fucking cummed my pants watching them slaughter a boatload of fascists.

I would success Kino's Journey. Overall, it is a philosophical series that touches upon ideas such as democracy and equivalency between nature and man and many, many other things. I think you would like it :D

As crazy as it sounds, I liked a anime about chinese mythology, filled with Confucianist values called Juuni Kokki. It's a world where there are literally 12 theocratic monarchies. But the anime shows the struggle of a king and a queen who struggle to overthrow the bureaucrats and rule for the people. I liked it a lot, despite my atheism.

I'd recommend Trigun. Its a hell of an anime. The basic jist of it, there is a man who is wanted named Vash, and he refuses to take lfe in -any- circumstance. Just watch it.

Trigun is badass. So is Cowboy Bebop. I guess neither are that anti-cpitalist though. I started watching Gundam 00. It sucks like most gundam series, but is better than a lot of them. If anyone wants to see a good gundam series then I suggest Turn A Gundam and 08th Mobile Suit Team.

Monster is an amazing anime, and the first two episodes focus on Dr. Tenma's ideals as a doctor and how the reality of capitalistic health care conflicts with them. The anime quickly shifts though - anti-capitalism isn't the focus of the anime.

The one with the Chess Master (Bebop) was anti-capitalist with tones of Timothy Leary.

I still maintain that Cowboy Bebop was the best anime series ever.

I personally think that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is a progressive anime series and it is even way better than Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop. GL always ensure to move on and take a risk rather than adapting to the same life.

Metropolis is kinda anticapitalist and a great film. First Squad is a good film set during the fight against fascism in WW2 Russia.
Uhh I can't think of any series or anything.. Code Geass is a good antiimperialist series.
edit: actually a lot of dystopian sci-fi series could be considered anticapitalist even if not consciously so..

Usually the dystopias are the result of imperialist war or unchecked corporate expansion (Cowboy Bebop's Earth was trashed by accidental explosion of the moon, for example).

It mostly made me think of individualism and something in the direction of objectivism, typical weakling to superhero individual transformation complex one gets from rubbish like Gainax.

Too bad the second season was trash. The first season was epic, one of my favorite anime ever.

I like Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop better, but that was a great show.. up until Kamina died.
I like a bit of animation every now and again, though I am no aficionado of anime. However, one film I own and watch sometimes is called Metropolis. Anyone familiar with the old silent movie (worth watching too) will immediately recognise the significance of a society divided by humans and robots.
It's not explicitly anti-capitalist, though there is a plot involving human workers attempting to stage a revolution. There is also the theme of class struggle in the relations between robots and their human masters.
It also has some lovely animation and jazz music on the soundtrack (particularly the Ray Charles song at the end) and the detective element to the story as well as the retro-futurist design adds a 1940s/noir feel to the whole thing.

The ninth episode of full metal alchemist (not the brotherhood version) may give you some pleasure.
