Let me present a hypothetical situation. Let's assume a person running for office wants to take web activism "to the next level." After Obama, it's trendy among bourgeois politcians to have a snazzy website and some Youtube videos, but how do we take that to the next level?
One idea I have involves using the 24 technical support char applet idea, I dunno if any of you are familiar with. Basically, it's a button you press that launches a chat window within which you can chat with a live person about whatever issue you are having. So a potential voter would simply click a link, and then be able to chat to a volunteer about the campaign. In an electoral situation, the app would have to log an IP to verify you as a constituent, probably, and probably have some other safeguards against trolling. Does anyone think this is a viable model? Does it exist already and I'm just overlooking it?
I'm still not really sure about it...It seems effective in maybe harnessing the power of so-called "slacktivists," but I'm not sure if we should be encouraging that, lol.
