This makes me angry for a variety of reasons. The police know the Red and Black Cafe. This was done to intimidate and draw weak kneed sympathy from people (other than portlanders) because they can't seem to do their fucking jobs and not kill innocent people. It's equivalent to a five year old throwing a temper tantrum. Pure PR from the city's finest to combat the growing dissent and community building against them in light of Union Contract signing bullshit that's heavily contested by several groups. They're desperate.

Edit: apparently it was handled in an organized fashion. It was CNN that failed to cover the details. Go figure.

What an idiot in that clip. As if they don't know the significance of the name "RED AND BLACK"? The big ol' Red Star isn't a big enough clue that maybe these folks don't like cops? Goddamn.

I think the cafe manager has a legitimate point, although the video barely touches on it. According to the manager, a lot of the people that go to that cafe are homeless people whose very well being are criminalized by the legal institution.

I've been to cafes like these, were on occasion you'll have random people ask you to buy them a cup of coffee. I usually do, and it don't bother me, but if a cop is there, they can get a ticket for panhandling.

If I'm ever in Portland, I'll definitely stop in.
