What's the possibility that the EU will collapse in the near future due to the economic crisis? Discuss.

I think the chance is slim. The EU has been consolidating power for a long time now, and although the economic crisis has increased certain inter-national antagonisms, I see no good prospects for a future collapse of this vile union. I cannot see the EU giving up the power it has expropriated from the member nations overnight.

As much as I'd welcome the collapse of the EU, I cannot see it happening in as things are going currently, no matter what little problems might arise between the various member nations and the central bureaucracy/"parliament" and so on.

None whatsoever. Its power is embedded in international treaties, it has active peace corpses, regulates or influences the majority of national legislation, employs 50000 civil servants (I was one of them! yay!), ...

Depends how the crisis goes the Germans are pissed off that they have to foot the bill and the french are pissed off that the Germans are dragging their feet they even threatened to leave the union over this.

Obviously the crisis is far from over but the Germans will not be willing to bend over again when the donation hat goes around again.

I think this is largely a question of grandstanding; the French and German leaderships are playing a game to confuse and please in various ways the local national populist currents; all the while, it is under no circumstances unclear what will eventually be done.
