And the FIFA World Cup Trophy goes to … Spain! EA today declared the winner of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. Using the market-leading EA SPORTS soccer engine that drives 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa (http://www.ea.com/games/2010-fifa-world-cup-south-africa) on the PlayStation 3 (http://www.ea.com/platform/ps3-games) computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 (http://www.ea.com/platform/xbox-360-games) videogame and entertainment system, EA was able to simulate the 2010 FIFA World Cup and test all 32 teams under the same conditions they will face in the weeks ahead. It was determined that Spain will defeat Brazil 3-1 at Soccer City on July 11 to win its first World Cup.
EA SPORTS 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, the officially licensed videogame of the World Cup, predicted the following placements:
World Champion: Spain
World Cup Final: Spain 3 Brazil 1
1stteam to be eliminated: South Africa
Golden Boot winner: David Villa (Spain), 7 goals
Golden Ball winner: Kaka (Brazil)
Fans around the globe will compare these astonishing results to the real-world tournament as it unfolds beginning June 11. The Final itself was an epic battle as Brazil put on a dazzling display of free-flowing samba style soccer early on against the Spaniards, taking a 1-0 lead in the 30thminute with a Felipe Melo strike from just inside the box. It didn’t take long for Spain to level the score after a goalie error that left striker David Villa in the clear. He tapped in his 6thgoal of the tournament in the 42nd minute. The second half saw fortunes turn in favour of Spain, as their disciplined build up play and domination of possession paid off with a goal in the 61stminute when Villa connected for his second goal of the match, off of Andres Iniesta’s driven cross. Brazil had several efforts on goal in the final third of the match but couldn’t capitalize on its chances as they pushed all players forward in an attempt to draw even, eventually conceding a splendid counter attack goal in the 88thminute from Cesc Fabregas, which delivered Spain the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Spain’s path to FIFA World Cup glory included a quarterfinal 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Italy after an absorbing 1-1 draw, and a 2-1 win over Argentina in the semi final. Brazil’s journey to the Final included a 3-2 win over the Netherlands in the quarter final and a 5-4 shootout victory over England after the two teams played out a 2-2 draw in the semi.
USA lost its opening match 2-1 to England before registering wins over Slovenia (2-0) and Algeria (2-1) to advance to the Round of 16, where it played Germany to a 2-2 draw before losing 3-1 in a penalty shootout. Mexico also recorded a 2-1 record in the Group Stage, with wins over South Africa (2-0) and Uruguay (2-1), before losing 2-1 to Argentina in the Round of 16.

lol, keep dreaming EA. It will be delicious to see the european capitalist teams to fail to win a World Cup outside their "old continent" again.

I'd be supporting France if it wasn't for Thierry Henry's 'hand of God' moment.
England it is, then.

Spain are a very good side, no denying that. They have a good chance.
The Netherlands will probably get eliminated in the knock-out stages in some really stupid way, as usual. Penalties (1992, 1996, 1998, 2000), getting provoked by opponents (2006), underestimating an opponent (2008), personal issues between players and staff (1990, 1996), etc. We always manage to find new inventive ways of shooting ourselves in the foot.

Oh god no. The English TV soccer pundits will never change the record about it.
They never really shut up about the last time they won.
Alcoholism in Scotland, Ireland and Wales will probably shoot up 1000%.

They never really shut up about the last time they won.
That's because they still feel secretly guilty about the goal which wasn't....
Anyway, a physics professor from Dortmund has developed a formula which sugests Germany is likely to win: http://www.thelocal.de/sport/20100508-27063.html

I could have saved them the trouble by referring them to almost any bookies site. Spain have, quite rightfully, been favourites for some time. But then it took the impressive power of FIFA 2010 to predict a Spain-Brazil final
It will be delicious to see the european capitalist teams to fail to win a World Cup outside their "old continent" again. As opposed to the host of teams from non-capitalist nations that are competing?

No, as opposed to the teams of South American capitalist nations who sell off their great players to the big markets of England/Spain/Germany etc. It's a pleasure to see small capitalist South America prevail over big capitalist Europe. =)

Funny business, this. It's pretty much exactly how I have my brackets filled out on FSC's bracket challenge. Although, given the Ballack injury and the fact that Joachim Loew seems to be being blackmailed by Miroslav Klose (how else can you explain him constantly starting Klose given his gawdawfull form recently, especially since he has a beast like Cacau on the bench), I'm hopeful about the US chances.
Anyhow, I'll be getting up at the ass crack of dawn to cheer on Bafana Bafana in the hope my boy Stevie P. can get it done against El Tri.

To be honest people always say this, even here in England (i.e "I hope we/England don't win because we'll never hear the end of it, just look at how they bang on about 1966") but to be honest I think it'd be nice to have some variety in the noises English pundits make. Perhaps the only way to never hear about 19-fucking-66 again would be to hear about 20-fucking-10 forever.
Regardless England doesn't stand a chance, they'll probably limp out of the group and get trounced in the knock out stage and the usual pub bores will tell anyone who listens that we could have gone on to win if only the referee had/had not made x crucial decision or if y series of unlikely events occured.

Hah They've got ready made excuses already. IE If we'd only had Walcott and Ferdinand and a decent keeper and colder water bottles and bigger locker rooms... You know it'll be something.

Oh christ don't I know it. In fairness though not having Walcott and Ferdinand is quite a blow to the side but if people pretend that it's what will lose us this cup then they had no idea what little chance England really stood anyway.
ROLF, Spain 3 Brazil 1???? In wich universe please? And of course Spain gets eliminated as soon as it can be, because if it wins class struggle here will be fucked.

Dunno, i derive some pleasure seeing the front pages of the gutter press bawww-ing about their post penalty shoot out piss poor performance and the inevitable witch hunt against the player who makes the pivotal fuck up. its simultaneously amusing and pathetic.Extra lulz ensue if the other side in question is Germany, Argentina or France. Although frankly if theres any justice Thierry 'volleyball' Henry and co will be on the first available flight back to gay Paris.

i dont know, spains a pretty strong side. Anyway, as Jimmy Greaves said, ''its a funny old game''. You sometimes have whats called 'bogey teams'. Or when a team is able to beat teams that are much superior otherwise, it has something to do with playing styles.
Northern Ireland's bogey team is Germany. When they meet up, they usually draw or Northern Ireland wins.

After Spain lost to Switzerland I wouldn't be so sure that Spain will win the world cup.
No team so far is looking convincing.
