Why does this seem like a inside attack by the Colombian military, in order to break up the two groups? Who knows..

FARC leader orders 'total war' against the ELN
THURSDAY, 03 JUNE 2010

An intercepted radio communication transmitted by FARC leader German Briceño, alias "Grannobles" confirms that the guerrilla ordered "total war" against fellow rebel group the ELN.

In the intercepted communication Grannobles, the brother of FARC military commander "Mono Jojoy," instructed the 10th and 45th FARC fronts to attack ELN bases, structures and collaborators, despite a supposed alliance between the two guerrilla organizations.

The FARC allege that the ELN assassinated one of their leaders, the ELN say that the FARC have attacked them, according to El Tiempo.

Combat between the two rebel groups supposedly began May 26. Nine guerrillas were reportedly killed in battle, along with three civilians who were caught in the crossfire, in Colombia's eastern Arauca department, where Grannobles is believed to operate.

Arauca ombudsman Gloria Cuitiva said that 45 families have been displaced by fighting between the guerrillas.

Some people know. Not us.

Either way, if they wage war against each other again, then they'll never win Colombia over. I'm starting to have doubts about them again..

No, I don't think that's it. They're both Marxist groups.

it sounds fake. like i said, wasn't there a very recent article where the FARC and ELN decided to put aside their difference in the struggle against the colombian government?

For some reason I can't remember where, but I remember reading an interview by a defector stating that violence between the two was mostly over territorial control of coca production. If you believe the FARC are involved in more than simply taxing the coca, than this may be a viable cause. Otherwise it can be media propaganda or some other reason not yet revealed. I can't see this type of violence benefiting the surrounding rural populations.

Well this isn't the first time they've gone into armed conflict.

what issue is the cause for this war?

Well if this is true than their unity seems to have been short lived and now shattered.

They didn't make it past this: http://www.revleft.com/vb/colombia-rebel-groups-t124892/index.html?t=124892 unfortunately if this is true, which is quite bad news

Seems like a bad strategical move by both of them. They agree on a vast majority of issues, and both want to bring socialism to Colombia, why this? Surely not for a few dollars more....

Well, again, they have shot at each other before in what seems to be conflicts over territory. False flag operations? possibly, but don't underestimate inter-guerrilla conflicts.

Yes, this is true. But they've come under agreements to share such territories & to co-exist. The situation right now, is not under which territories are being disputed, but rather leaders of such movements are being assassinated, which I see no reason why either or would lead themselves to such actions.

Maybe they have slightly differing ideas. And who cares? It was a joke.
