Hey,

Name: Alex

Age: 17, turning 18 soon.

Politics/Ideology:

For most of my life I was a Anarcho-Cap/Libertarian. My father owned this small winery in California, it was staffed by my family and some family friends who did profit sharing. So I believed that competition works, and we made the best wine so we would win and be ssuccessful. Gallo Bros. disagreed. As our small artisan winery lost sales as the economy went bad in 2007-2008, and people didn't want to pay, the Gallo Bros. With their army of exploited wage slaves won.

This crushed my father, and we ended up moving to S. Dak. where we had family. My dad began working for a monolithic corporate bank, and hated it. My mom began teaching to make some more money.

I didn't automatically become a Communist, I went to a centre-left position, then Dem. Soc, to being as Communist as one can be without advocating revolution, because they had all failed. Then after being given "Revolution Betrayed" the last barrier to Communism, my dislike of the Soviet Union collapsed.

Philosophy: Dialectical Materialism, Trotsky's "ABC's of Dialectical Materialism" did it for me.

Real-life struggle in the capitalist economy, as opposed to the abstract utopian theory that defines "anarchist" capitalism, does tend to change one's perspective a bit. I've always been sort of uncomfortable using personal anecdotes myself though, because of their subjective and widely varying nature. But that's what people understand, and you have more and better experience than the naive imbeciles on mises.org ever will. Welcome to the fold!

I kinda wonder why Rosa hasn't started a huge flamewar inhere already against the menace that is dialectics. She's out of form.

Welcome!

You live in SoDak, too? Haha, that's crazy! I never would've expected to see anyone in this forum from around these parts. Sorry to hear that you came here because of such crappy circumstances, though.
