I've never "protested for free speech," so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Also, I'm pretty sure rampant capitalism is the main thing commies protest, not "free speech" rights.

Yes, Muslims are just people following the religion of Islam, but I'd argue that they are an ethnic group that creates its identity through Islam. It's not the same as "race" necessarily, but it fulfills a similar role.

We don't have to be tolerant of the EDL, in the same way that we don't have to be tolerant of fascists. Some opinions simply are necessary to be heard. Also I don't speak on behalf of entire forum. No, intolerance towards the intolerant isn't the same as intolerance towards a group based on a non-negative trait.

When a given person X is intolerant towards another person or group Y based on non-negative trait Z (defined according to some moral system), this is a reason for opposition.

When another person A is intolerant towards person X because of his intolerance based on Z, this isn't the same kind of 'intolerance'. It's opposition towards intolerance based on non-negative traits (like race,ethnicity, sexual preference,etc.)

Following your 'logic', the EDL is 'just as bad' as Muslim extremists because they oppose muslim extremists because of their views, so there you go :rolleyes:

The EDL is composed of a mix of out and open fascists (from the BNP), reactionary conservatives (of the UKIP variety), football hooligans and misguided working class lads. The latter are a concern but the former are reason enough for opposition. At almost every demo the EDL has shown to spread Islamophobic propaganda targeting all Muslims, defending 'British and western culture' and spouting nationalist nonsense. Furthermore, Pakistani districts have been assaulted during EDL demos gone wrong.

I never said anything about race, if you read what I posted. I referred to Muslims (perhaps erroneously) as basically an ethnic group, as the ties between socially constructed "race" (i.e. Afghani) and religion (in this case, Islam) are very strong.

The difference is that Catholicism is not as strongly tied to any racial group as Islam is. It's the same reason why being anti-Semitic is "racist," even though Jews aren't strictly a "race."

English you're missing the point choosing to hate a particular group of people is an intolerance to something that should materialistically matter little to you. If they were actually a threat to implementing it, well yes i would. But they are not, although i and all people on this board are opposed to being forced under sharia law, the muslims that support sharia are such a minority of the poulation and as a result there is NO threat of it, how ever the fact of the matter is there have been racial agrivated assults as a result of EDL demos, language used that is extreemly predudice against an already persecuted minority, and known facists on your demos, as a result i will save my fists for them. But if you aint a racist or a facists then you have nothing to worry about. Fair enough?
