I was wondering if someone could elaborate on academic institutions and their role as a locus of revolutionary activity, not so much institutionally, but more in terms of student organizations.

I would appreciate sources and responses grounded both in historical and current events, such as the role of students in, for example, Nepal, Venezuela and even Palestine, Iraq and Iran among others, as well as the institutional bureaucratization and regulation of student groups.

On this last point, I suppose it would vary according to institutions and the regulatory/bureaucratic rules that organizations must meet to qualify as a student organization, and enjoy the use of institutional facilities. Would this inhibit the scope of student organizations? Do student organizations advance the academic institutional goals?
