72-Hour Maoist Ultimatum On Nepal PM As He Refuses To Quit
Last Updated: 2010-05-31T12:27:36+05:30
Nepal’s former Maoist guerrilla is again in news and it has now slapped a 72-hour ultimatum on the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal after he refused to step down.
"The resignation has to come within three days," the Janadisha daily, a Maoist mouthpiece, said Monday quoting senior Maoist leader Mohan Baidya Kiran.
According to sources, Kiran said that his party agreed to vote for the government decision to extend the term of parliament by one year on Friday night only after the Prime Minister agreed to hand over the power in five days.
But now the crisis has been avoided as the Prime Minister has returned to his earlier stand.
The peace pact which was signed between the Maoists and the ruling parties has failed to announce a new constitution.
Now, there has been increasing criticisms from media and public for the parties’ failure to draft a new constitution as well as for their selfish motives rather than putting national interest first.
Meanwhile when the parties are returning to their old stand, there are fresh claimants for the Prime Minister’s post including Nepali Congress and Madhesi Janadhikar.
With only 363 days left, the parties have once again failed to draft a new constitution.
