View Full Version : Sarah Palin calls herself a feminist now?!

This is extremely frightening. First read this Washington Post story that was in the Outlook section today. It's called "The Fake Feminism of Sarah Palin". It's the best article the Post has had since this recession began. It's on the website too.
Apparently Sarah Palin is now calling herself a feminist, calling for a "pro-woman sisterhood", etc. Apparently what she preaches is called "conservative feminist identity". Needless to say this is total bullshit. Conservatives, Palin included with the craziest of them, oppose every pro-woman policy that has ever been adopted. This is for nothing but political tactics. If conservatives can identify themselves with women's rights while opposing every policy that encourages them, they win and they permanently kill feminism. The conservatives, in another bout of historical revisionism, have started to claim that the original American feminists like Susan B. Anthony were the same as them on issues like abortion, or in the words of Sarah Palin, "And believe in that culture of life, empowering women by offering them a real choice."
Exactly what choice would there be once abortion is outlawed?
It is EVERYONE'S duty to fight as hard as they can against these people before they crush feminism entirely by turning it into a meaningless political phrase. Otherwise, its prospects will be about the same as communism is now: a fringe movement dominated by sectarianism.

interesting, this is might be good. its a good example and a good start shot for the coming purges in the feminist ranks.
I'm in favour of this.

Purges are not what we need to get more feminists. Or better ones.
EDIT: before I forget, here's the link to the article now that I have 25 posts. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/05/28/AR2010052802263_2.html?sid=ST2010052804193

Insofar as she promotes what she thinks it is to be properly 'feminine', then she's a 'feminist'. She's basically just appropriating the term to her own ends.

The American people took 5 whole years to see through George Bush. They STILL haven't seen through Reagan yet. They also seem to be getting stupider by the minute, so I'm not too optimistic about this. :glare:

For the record, Susan B. Anthony was opposed to abortion.

Bush was not the problem, or regan, the problem is, that capitalists control the system, the president serves for the ruling class, wether Obama, Kennedy or Regan
Cpitalism is a system which is rotten and inhumane, the figurehead is just a tool.
When bush was in office the workers were mad.
The capitalists had a stroke of genious, fund a black man talking about change, to keep everything the same.
Change can only occur when socialism prevails.

That's true, but sometimes some exploiters are more direct than others.
btw, Susan B. Anthony could not have been opposed to or for abortion as far as I know. It wasn't even regulated until the 30s, was it? I know contraceptives were but that's a different story. Maybe you all know more about this than me.

It is already a fringe movement dominated by sectarianism. And I don't really care if Sarah Palin calls herself a feminist or not. It will do nothing but hurt her position in the Republican party so I'm pretty cool with that.

Palin is a younger version of Phyllis Schlafly, imo.

Are you saying that the system alone is at fault, and people are otherwise intrinsically good? If so, others could argue that the system itself, any system, was created by the people. It did not drop from the skies, did it? So people are to blame for the mess either way.
